Did Bears tooth yesterday and the road to the sun today. In Bigfork Mt. tonight,  having dinner at my old bosses restaurant circa 1973.
Rained on us a little coming over Logan pass, and the wind was howling heading north from Great Falls.
Still having fun
Lolo tomorrow.

I have a favor to ask of Chris Collins & Chuck S. ..... if you see a short stocky guy who rides a convert from Alberta, CA. Delbert is his name,,, snap one of his suspenders for me. And if he gives you a funny look ask him if he wants to wrestle.. :thumb: Or anyone of you who sees him for that matter ,,,,, it's a inside joke between us.

Word of caution.... if he starts a conversation with you,,, you might be there for a while.

Hey - most guys, if you walked up to them, snapped their suspenders and asked if they wanted to wrestle, you'd be in for something that would look like a Warner Brothers cartoon!

Then again, if he's from Calgary, he just might be that strange...

ran into a pair of ktmsfrom Alberta and Yukon at a gas stop in Baker City, Or.  It was declared the first annual impromptu far north rally.

On Vashon Island tonight.  got the trike from the barge co.  They were grumbling that they couldn't figure out how to start it and even had some bikers try.  I commented that my antitheft works good, hit the battery cutout and fired it up.

Missed a turn to West Seattle and had to do the combat commute through the infamous 1st ave So chute, backtrack on surface streets, and make an uphill merge into west seattle freeway traffic.  Not how I wanted to prove the design.  But aside from being a bit lethargic on the merge, it did fine mixing it up on the thoroughfare.  I rendevou'd with my luggage, repacked and reduced, and managed to fit my cold weather gear on board.  I had to give up tools and stuff I'll miss, but I felt I needed the heavy weather gear.

I've improved the rear brakes with the smaller m/c, but I was shipped the wrong banjo bolts and can't improve the rest of the way till I can find 3/8, fine, double banjo bolts.  I'll canvas shop along my route.

So all systems go for a morning lanch from Vashon, through Spanway to the mountain highway and Morton/Randle.  Decide in randle if I go via 12 to Yakima or south past Deep Forest on the forest service roads.

Good to see everyone on course and schedule.  Keep your wheels down and look for the vw van tent at JD.

If you see this, send me the spec you need, and I'll see if I can pick them up before I head north on Friday (at 0-dark-stupid). I know of a pretty good hose shop and an absolutely great specialty hardware store.

What I need are two double-banjo bolts for stacking two banjo lines.  They need to have the two sets of feeder holes and be 3/8 x fine.  I will continue looking as I travel, but I am good for the cost of any that anyone might produce.  They're that important.

I rode around Vashon this AM looking for them.  No luck, but with the work I did last night at least I can haul it down to a stop with a full load on using only the rear brakes.  I couldn't do that before, which made the seattle freeway kinda puckery.

Finishing packing up and hoping for the noon boat off the island.

Rear tire is shot. Hope it will make it the few hundred miles tomorrow. Running car tires on the sidecar rig all around. Smart car tires. Rear is a 175 r65 15. Plan to call the tire store in John Day tomorrow and see if they can get one quick. Then I need a cycle shop to mount it.

Looked all over, and nobody has them in hand - even the HD shops that might have had the Goodridge ones were dry wells. I'll see you Friday night and we can figure out a way to get some to you from an online source. All else is in hand and will be in my saddlebags to set you up with GPS etc.

In case anyone is interested - or bored...

You can follow my 'brief but exciting' () run up to John Day on Friday and Saturday on SPOTwalla - starting Friday at about 0-dark-stupid (since it's cooler then)...

I'm told Friday's dinner plan is chili - that may make my search for a place to sleep a bit more difficult!

Arrived in John Day about 5pm. Tire looking about the same as it did 300 miles ago. Did find one available here in town, 165r80 15 good enough. Matt from New Mexico will mount it for me if the tire place won't. He also says that he can cure the exhaust leak by rearcing the inserts at the header connection.
Seems like all my worries are for naught.
Gnight all.

Any of you guys stop in Prairie City?  The Oxbow restaurant/bar use to be a pretty good place to stop at.. Had many world class mountings on the walls.. It was in transition as far as decor when I went though last.. (loaned out all the animals, and new owners from the time before.   I am 113 miles west of John day, and think I will go to lunch over that way tomorrow.. 2002 Stone.. Maybe stop, and see the cool bikes on my way through.. :thumb:

ITsec -- brakes are acceptable now, thanks for the help!  Also -- using gps tech in real time.  Used it to nav to an urban campsite n Baker City.   :thumb:

Left Vashon on the noon ferry.  Rode south down Pac. Ave in Tacoma to the mountain highway and skirted Mt. Ranier on the west via FS road 52, finding hiway 12 in Randle.  Bounced the stuffing out of my rear shocks.  My A-arms are resting in a negative rather than positive angle, and I've lost significant ground clearance.  I'll try Portland on Tues. to fix that.

On 12 I stopped to help a guy and while I was in the potty he loaded up my tools and left.  Thanks, Steve Ford for donating some replacements.  I got a feeling I'll see that guy again.

Bad gas in Yakima plugged a fuel filter and my tank switch gear.  The gas looked like a pale ale when I drained it, except that you can see through a pale ale.  About 20 miles short of Goldendale I was done - bike won't go, fuel pump sounds like stevie nix, and the fuel smells like wombat piss.  I coast down a random driveway and beg for mercy.

the kid there welcomes me to a couch on the porch and some cans to drain gas.  I get one tank clean enough to use and discover a layer of good gas floating on the crud -- enough to get to Goldendale.  I limp into town the next morning, unlink the tanks from the plugged switch valve, run one tank through a new filter straight to the pump and head on down the line figuring I'll bail fuel by hand from one tank to the other if I need to.

Since I don't really want to bail gas, I go into 'don't pass up a fuel stop ' mode, which promptly got me another load of bad gas.  Now I'm being blown off the road by random guzzis headed south on 97.  I'm gasping on one lung at about 45 and shaking like a 441 victor.  I spy a ODOT road maintenance station and pull in.  They let me drain more pale ale from the kegs and marveled at the multiple layrs of nasty liquids separating in the gater aid bottle.  "Dump it in the burning barrel out back."

They gave me a couple gallons of gas along with their apologies for my crap luck.  By about Prinevills I was smoothing out at speeds over 45, and for the last 100 miles to John Day I cruised 70+ and made an 85+pass.

So that was the first 1000 miles' worth of drama on the new trike.  You might notice that  none of it involves failures of planning, design, or workmanship.  I went nto this project to make the point that a motorcycle doesn't need a transmission, and I've proved it.

John Day was a blast.  Lots of Stelvios and loops.  I even saw a tolerable smallblock.  The VW van tent was there, and was as always, good for a laugh.  Folks were around the trike making comments and asking questions almost non-stop.  I got very little done on my planned campsite projects, but I'd brought the trike to be seen and studied, so from my point of view the trip and rally were both a success.  I'm in Baker City for the night and headed to Portland on Tuesday.

Shawn (Twisted Twin) and I had a great run down via the Cascades, Winthrop, Dry Falls overnighted at Moses Lake
Got to examine the trike in close detail, amazing work by David, apparently he has it official it travels 47 MPH in reverse.
Got to talk to Rodekyll, Chuck from Indiana, Canuck750 and dozens of others,
We left for home early on Saturday Shawn had a reservation in Ellensburg, I carried on to Leavenworth and overnighted at fish Camp then had a great run over Steven's pass and back up 9

My green VII Sport was the only one there, Stelvios were probably the most common species among the more than 250 Guzzis in attendance.

Many thanks to the tireless folk who put on the great rally.

Chillin' in the Portland area with Gary and Gerri.  Was good to see and talk with a lot of people that I hadn't seen in a while.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

:1:  Yes the diesel powered Tonti was quite interesting. The pics here don't show the bike adorned with the complete nose fairing, which was quite unique although a bit bulbous.
The weather was, IMO, fantastic. Overnight lows were a bit chilly, but I wasn't camping so it didn't bother me.  I departed JD early Sunday morning and by 4:30 PM I was home where it was 104-degrees, and thise cool temps were all but a memory.
