Hey folks. I'm looking for a nice riding jacket that is a little longer in the back. Jackets always ride up on me because I have a longer torso. Any suggestions.

Any real motorcycle jacket should be designed to be longer in the back. The folks that design those know that you are seated leaning forward.
All of those designer HD jackets and the ones you get in the truck stops are designed for sitting upright on a bar stool. They may look really cool but they won't give you the coverage you need when you are really riding.
Another option is to get actual riding pants that are made higher in the back to zip to the jacket.

If leather, call Vanson and talk about what it would cost to have a jacket made to fit you. When I had mine made, the big issue was that it took a long time, but it was worth the wait, and the cost, in my view, was reasonable. They make great jackets, and for that matter great trousers.

Vanson made my jacket and trousers about five years ago. There was definitely an issue about turn-around time, but that may have improved since. Certainly, I'd speak with them. They make great jackets that will last a lifetime.

And I am not saying this as part of the Buy USA mantra. I'm not an American; I'm just a very satisfied customer.

If you can get to their shop in Fall River, you might even find a jacket that fits you off the rack.

Agreed. Roadcrafter or Darien from Aerostich. 10 years and going strong on my Darien jacket and pants.

Roadcrafter is either a one-piece or two-piece and zipped together suit that is a bit more form-fit. Darien is 2 separate pieces (no attachment to each other) that fit a bit more freely, designed for touring, etc. Lots of options for each line.

I love my Vanson jackets, still wearing one that is 30 years old! I have a couple newer ones too. Yes, there is the wait, but the leather is top notch and they truly last a lifetime...

Barbour has a new international jacket with armor and a removable insulated liner
It's waterproof and breathable.
Not yet common in the USA.
It can be reproofed as needed.
Will last forever.

Vanson, Langlitz and Schott are well known, but not sure if any of them have armor. Dainese is expensive but I'm a fan of their non-racing gear.

I have one of their leathers (prob. 11-12 years old) which they no longer make, but there ballistic gear is outstanding and priced well for what you get. I can also say the customer service is outstanding. I contacted them a couple years ago for new armor and a couple zipper pulls for my leather. Mind you the jacket had been out of production for nearly ten years. No problem, set me up cheap. A real pleasure to deal with.

Leather vs. textile is kind of apples/oranges. I have an Aero Darien jacket that is very practical, but I prefer the feel and aesthetics of leather. As previously noted, you can't go wrong with Vanson. For a medium price (around $400), I am very satisfied with my Tourmaster Element jacket. The leather is claimed to be 20% cooler than untreated leather, and more important, waterproof. Fits well with unobtrusive armor, and has a nice "hand".

Custom made for your size, put together as you decide with armor, extra slide protection, reflector, etc. etc. The Kevlar jackets are amazing. I have nearly 100,000 miles on one and love it. Made here and bulletproof.

Wayne (the owner) is a great guy to do business with and will make sure jacket fits like a glove.

HELD from Germany makes off the rack tall/short. They also build in Pakistan and EU. ... read the fine print. They also make old school touring jackets... aka long.

I can say with confidence that Vanson jackets come with shoulder and elbow armor, and they're very well made, to last a lifetime. I bought my Drifter model at the factory in Fall River, MA, an experience in itself! I had lesser satisfaction trying to buy pants there, however. Their "real" motorcycling pants are meant for racing and I'm sure they work well for that purpose, but they're much too heavy and stiff for street riding. They might break in, eventually, but, at age 74, I don't have the time. Their other leather pants are not really designed for riding, except perhaps for short jaunts to the local Starbucks. Too tight fitting, to low in back, no armor. I got a pair of cheap Bilt Spirit leather pants at Cycle gear, they do the job.

I only wear leather when riding short distances. Otherwise it is a Tourmaster jacket. But, mine (Flex III) is not that long in back and not custom.

If I were to buy something else it would be a stich suit.

Many folks don't want to spend over $1000 for a riding suit.

Three jackets that are a very good buys are:

1. TourMaster Transition

2. First Gear Kilimanjaro

3. First Gear Kathmandu

Check with NewEnough (Adventure whatever)

Years ago, I had an Transition and I was very impressed with it. I currently have a high-dollar riding suit but, really, that inexpensive Transition performed equally well.

I really like my transition II jacket. I've had it for over 10 years and it performs very well although it's a little faded.

Works ok when I'm riding the V7Sport as well. I'm sure there must be others who make leathers in this style.
