Breva 1100 Clutch Lever adjustment

Hi I need to replace the clutch lever on my B11 (dropped 't bike in the drive and snapped the end off the lever  ) and whilst reading up on things find that there is a push rod plus locking grub screw that will need to be swapped over when I get the replacement

Not a biggie but I've been having some issues with difficult selecting gears from cold, a bit of clunking on gear selection and finding neutral. That lot appeared to point to a clutch not disengaging properly though I do run the clutch at position 4 'cos I have short fingers  so that might be linked.

So, the question is how much clearance should there be between the push rod and the master cylinder as I might as well check its correct while I'm in there!

You'd think as little as possible would be the go wouldn't you ? After sll the only reason you have clearance is so as not to be applying clutch when hands off, and to keep the communicstion hole open to the m/c

Be advised the screw will be a bi**h to get out of the old lever.

I guess I'll just touch the screw onto the cylinder and then back it off a tad or a smidgen which ever feels right.

PS can I get in there too measure what the clearance started out at?

I just measured the length of the rod that pokes the plunger (not as dirty as it sounds) on the original lever and went from there. You can adjust where the clutch grabs in the lever travel with this, so adjust it and then give it a test. I always thought my clutch grabbed too far at the end of the lever travel so when I bought new levers I took the time to make it grab where I wanted it.

I've seen on the forum that a gnat's c..k is an accurate unit for small measurements.

If you are replacing the lever with another original equipment part it should come with the plunger and barrel.

As for adjustment if you do need to swap? Screw it in until you feel it touch the piston of the M/C and then back it off a half a turn. If you get it in to far your clutch will start to slip. If that happens? wind it out a bit more.

Simples - 10 minute job tonight then if the replacement turns up today
