95 Sport

Hi everyone, I haven't been active for some time but spring is here and I have a project, I have a 1995 Sport with 10K on it, the tranny is leaking gear oil all over my rear tire, I believe is is the shifter seal in the rear cover, I am going to pull the tranny and want to go through it, I have no experience in gear boxes so my question, is there anyone that can go through my tranny to replace all the seals and orings, replace bearings, and shim shift drum if needed. I am willing to ship. I live in Northern Wisconsin. any advice or help will be appreciated thanks

Well, Jim at Rose Farm could do it of course. My Kid could do it but probably doesn't want the job. Even I could do it, but I don't want the job, either.  If you're mechanically inclined, I'll bet you could do it. Just look up the tutorials on This old tractor. It's not rocket science.

I would give The Guzzi Doctor a call (he advertises on here and is a board sponser).  His shop is in North Chicago, Illinois.  He's done the xmission on my LM3 and also a top end job - I couldn't be more pleased.  My bike is down in his shop as I type - time for new brake lines and a new head light assembly.

While its apart throw in a pair of 3205-AC3 bearings instead of the ATN9's. Also be aware that the straight cut boxes on the 95 Sports are prone to trashing themselves due to a combination of poor case hardening, the lack of a Cush drive in the rear wheel and an unforgiving face cam spring in the box. The three dog engagement also means that if they are ridden in a lumpen, softcock manner they will degrade quicker than if they are grabbed by the horns and given a good thrashing!

Uhhh, wat Pete says.  The Kid's transmission was pretty much toast from a (ahem) softcock rider and the 3 dog deal. He (we) swapped in modern internal parts and the new bearings. Pretty easy, but you *do* lose the kool straight cut gears.

Sean Fader at RTL Moto does a lot of transmissions on the west coast.  Did my Lemans 5. Honest guy and excellent work.

I doubt if you'll find a better mechanic than Sean, Tom.. old stuff, new stuff, big block, small block.

I live in SC and can/will do it for you. I have already been through the Mille GT box-no parts, just a shim job. It really made a difference in shift quality. My own Sport has a new clutch but needs the bearing upgrade for peace of mind. It should take two weeks to strip, order parts and reassemble.

Well I pulled the tranny today and prepped it for shipping, looks like Joe {RedRider} is going to go through it and do the things we talked about. I still have to tear down the clutch , with 10,000 miles on it I hope its ok, then I will replace the rear seal in the motor, last I am rebuilding the carbs, the rubber intake boots are extremely weather checked so they will be replaced. Overall I will check out things clean them up and put it back together. Any Tricks and Tips  will be considered.
