I have a full Autocom intercom system that runs music from my Sirius/XM receiver through my Zumo 665. I love it. I love riding with music. It's nice for both commuting and long rides. It'll be invaluable for the long slog across to the National this year.

I enjoy music wether on a bicycle or motorcycle. No earphones though. Installed a Boss Bluetooth system with volume control for $80 and it works and looks good.

Leave it to your den and the great sound system and pay attention to your ride, it will save your life.

I must be dead then :)

Absolutely love music on the bike.
I don't bother around town.  But on a trip it's a must.
But I am a music fan.
It does not district you from riding unless you're an idiot who has it too loud. I can hear my music fine, was well and my bike and other vehicles as the come closer.

I disagree.  As I pointed out, I don't hear at all out of one ear and don't hear much with the other one.  I don't think it's fair to call me an idiot for recognizing that for me at any volume music is a distraction.  To assume otherwise would be -- well -- idiotic.

Newbie question: as a cyclist I think riding with earphones in and listening to music is...frankly, bloody stupid. What do you think about music and riding? Is It different to cycling? Why?

Beerman

I think there's a line there someplace where acceptable volume and enjoyment of the music as it enhances the riding experience are found on one side while distraction, sensory deprivation, and being constantly tethered to technology reside on the other. Personally I don't ever listen to music whilst riding but that has more to do with why I ride than it does with feeling that I'd be sensorally (sp?) vulnerable. For me it's more about being alone with my thoughts and with nothing else to do or to distract me than it even is with the ride per say.

Just my thoughts.
