2016 Stelvio AZBDR
« on: May 06, 2016, 07:47:32 PM »
4 weeks ago I bought a new 2016 Stelvio.  I had just sold my KTM 990 after 4 years and was looking for a change.  I've done a number of posts here inquiring about the Stelvio before and after I purchased it.  I've also posted up about prepping for the AZBDR. To all those who helped with the decision to purchase and those who responded on the prepping, many thanks!
So....times up! I've done the first service, oils, valves, etc. etc. Driving light mod has been done, mud guard for the rear shock, done, ROXX risers, done, GPS mount and GPS, done, new Shinko 804/805 tires installed, every fastener I could lay my hands on has been checked and rechecked.
Bike is loaded and I leave in the morning. 840 miles from the garage to the beginning of the AZBDR, 700 miles or so off road, 700 or so back home. 9 days to accomplish.  This will be the 4th BDR I've done and the folks at Butler maps do a great job planning the routes so I'm comfortable with the route planing.
I'll post up when possible....  (horrid photo I know)
If it's tourist season, why can't you hunt them?

question for you:  Did you find that the two bolts that attach the exhaust to the collector (13mm hex) needed tightening?  I've ridden several new Stelvios and most needed repeated attention on those two bolts--otherwise the exhaust gasket blows out and you'll be down horsepower and it will sound horrible.

Oh, and when your turn signal/mirror comes apart (it will), I found that a zip-tie w/ a spacer (a plastic water-bottle cap works) to press against the mirror will hold things together well enough to last the trip.
