Motus on eBay
« on: May 07, 2016, 07:07:55 PM »
Those following the Motus saga might check out the bike on eBay right now.  It looks great, but $34k is a lot of dough for something like this.  Have they sold any yet?

We have a dealer in Livermore CA with one on the floor.  It's a 2015, oddly.  It's pretty impressive looking.

But yeah, lot of dough.  However, I paid a good percentage of that for my Indian Roadmaster.  It's worth what it's worth.

If this is the same 1, it's in Florida, brand new ($32,549), has matching red saddlebags, and you can make an offer to a dealer.

Boy is that pretty. Tough to find though as he did not put "MOTUS" in the listing title but rather MST.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Other-Makes-MST-/231932224158?forcerrptr=true&hash=item36003ce29e:g:SKYAAOSwYmZXKMQj&item=231932224158

Given what people are willing to pay for exclusivity - I should think they'd be selling more of these than it seems. $32,000 isn't such an outrageous buy-in anymore... Half a Confederate.

It's a pretty impressive package, but if I was paying north of $30,000 for a motorcycle, I wouldn't want it to have chain final drive.

I work at the company who developed the initial Motus engine (KMV4), though that was before my time. It's a REALLY sweet little engine, basically a scaled down 1/2 LS V8. Not sure what engine they went with after this deal went south though.

I was under the impression that this was still the half-a-small block. Is that not the case?

I hope so. I just think that conceptually, that's cool as all get-out. I hope these take off but won't be holding my breath.

Were I a well-heeled committed tourer - I'd give one a go. It'd make a hell of a ride behind a $500,000 motor home were I one of those guys.

As a point of comparison and acknowledging the significant market differences, what does $32,000 buy in a Harley these days. I know you can damn near use that number up on the MSRP of the top-flite Gold Wing.

I thrashed the dog dookey out of one of these, an R version, riding with Motus Pres Lee Conn.

The most exhilarating motorcycle I've ever ridden.  Like a Guzzi on steroids.  It's nothing like a 4-cylinder Japanese bike. The Motus has lots of character.  The Motus feels and sounds like a big V twin.

They have been filling pre-orders to this point. They have sold MANY more than you would think. The private Facebook group has quite a few owners (I am a non-owner member). Some guys are logging some serious miles. Some minor issues here and there that are quickly fixed. All seem to be very happy with the purchase.

Very pricey bike, but it's very unique. It's also comfortable, fast, and a good touring rig.

Someday...

They sold one to me and it's a hell of a bike. My Norge was a great bike, but this one is better.

Maybe it is the same motor. All I know is that the Katech-Motus partnership ended poorly. The V4 that Katech still has is like 90% complete but they're not allowed to sell it into the motorcycle market. Perhaps after the split Motus finished the development on the motor.

It is not the Katech motor, but similar.  I can't remember now who did it, but from what I understand, that motor went through a significant redesign to get to the one in the production bikes.

Wanted to get my two cents in as well. I also had the pleasure of riding both the MST and MSTR with Lee Conn leading the way. These bikes are among the most fun to ride bikes I've ever ridden in my 45 years of riding. The Motus simply bridges all aspects of what a full size street bike should do (my opinion).

They are fast, very torquey, are lighter than you would think and handle wonderful, comfortable, sound wonderful and just full of character.  If you are a farkler this bike will end that! Everything on this bike is top shelf premium stuff. I know...its chain drive and that will be an issue for some. Its also has no nannies so you are on your own. I know some will think that for $30K+ it should have all manner of safety nannies but I find it refreshing in today's world that it does not.

I like the fully integrated diagnostics built into the dash. No need for a separate computer/diagnostics hook up. Sure its not perfect but its sure close. Lots of eye candy on this thing. Its a pleasure just to study and look at it.

Probably one of the easiest  bikes to maintain. No valve adjustments, look at that oil filter location! Should last forever.

I will own one soon

Yep! It's a good thing that the dealer is over 3 hours from me. Otherwise I'd be in there everyday looking at them and probably seeing what I could sell (including my soul) to buy one!

A friend of mine is a dealer of them in New Hampshire. He is selling all he can get his hands on. He sells more of the MST-R's than the basic model. When you look at the cost of a new Harley or new comparable BMW, the price is in the ball park. On top of it all, it's a hand made motorcycle with premium components.

There's some clever pieces there too. Fuel injection parts are available at GM dealers, oil filters are a Toyota part number and available at pretty much any auto part store on the planet. The clutch pack is the same as a Suzuki Hyabusa, so available at pretty much any Suzuki dealer.

Torque values are stamped on the critical nuts. The bike is engineered like a submarine.

The sound of that motor will raise the hair on the back of your neck.

I thought it was a lot of money too.......

Until I saw one in the flesh.
