Need help...Norge vs Griso front wheel
« on: May 23, 2016, 06:04:53 PM »
Anyone know the difference between the front axial of a norge vs a griso?

I kept the Norge axle for my wire wheel build. It's 25 mm dia. and I made a new spacer for the right hand side. Although I used a Bellagio hub.

Hi Guzzi Ride, how is your project going? Are there any outstanding problems that you could use help with ? Huzo

All the axles are I believe the same diameter. The difference may be the length of both spindle and shoulder and maybe the spacer as well.

If I get a chance I'll do a parts check tomorrow, I'm in Melbourne tonight and it looks like the weather is going to be bloody awful tomorrow so I should have some time.

That would be great Pete. I need one with a longer shoulder that the 08 Norge and a longer spacer on the right side as well.

Thanks for the offer Huzo, but I'm using a different hub than you did so that throws everything off.

That's quite ok mate. The main concern I had when adapting the Bellagio hub was that the distance between the forks could easily be different on the Bellagio than the Norge, that's why I stuck with the Norge axle and made a tight fitting spacer to go up against the shoulder on the left side, (about 3 mm if memory serves), and this stays permanently on the axle, then simply align the front wheel centrally so the calipers slide nicely on and measure the remaining gap on the right side. A new spacer for the right side and you're done! As you correctly say, the measurements that apply to you may be different, but I expect the the procedure will be similar. When I did mine I read a post that said I should have just bought a set of Griso wheels, but as you can see there's a little bit more to it than that, and anyway, I wanted to get new rims and bore the spoke holes myself. If Pete can help you by doing a parts check, that will maybe result in a smoother path through, I'm just a bit old fashioned, and prefer to rely on the lathe. No matter which way you get there I hope all goes well and you're enjoying the journey, all the best. Huzo.

OK, some part #'s and a bit of info.

Griso alloy wheel spindle GU05614130

Spacer Alloy wheel GU06616300

Griso wire wheel spindle 978497

Spacer wire wheel 978498

All Norges. Spindle GU05614130

Spacer AP8125791

What I can also add is that the wire wheel spindle for Griso SE is longer than the alloy one and I *Think* from memory that the spacer is similarly longer. I am relying on my memory for this though so take it with a grain of salt.

No worries. Despite the different part #'s I believe that the spacers for the wire and cast wheels are the same but I can't yet confirm. The reason I think that is that I have both types of wheel for my G8 and I can swap the wheels without the centreline changing but the spindle pulls in from the right about a centimetre. So the RH end o the spindle is recessed about 5mm if I use the cast wheel spindle with the hipster wheels.

The Norge spindle shoulder is 2 3/8 long or 60mm anyone know if the Griso wire wheel is longer?

I'm in Melbourne at the moment. I'll get a rough measurement when I'm back in Bungendore.

Do you know if the disc spacing is the same on the Griso vs Norge ? That is, will you have to machine the mounting faces or produce spacers to widen the hub so the discs will slide into the calipers ?

Will see what happens.

If the disc spacing is the same and also axles, machine two spacers and you're away ! Ps make sure bolt holes for discs line up.

For heaven's sake talk to Pete Roper if you're considering buying one. You MUST make sure on the flat tappets issue. I'm clueless but he will tell you EVRYTHING you need to know, don't listen to anyone else. Huzo. BTW good luck on the project.
