Oil Light comes on after washing
« on: May 29, 2016, 03:32:48 PM »
Decided to give my 1200 Sport the first washing of the season. Afterwards upon startup, the Red triangle light comes on as well as the Oil Can symbol on the dash. I know the oil level is fine. Any ideas?

Likely got water in the sensor.

You can add one of these.

Thanks for the tip. I've been starting it every 10 minutes and each time it takes a little longer for the light to come on. Last time I start it being 30 minutes after I wash it seems to possibly have dried out in the sun and the light is not coming on!

My Bassa did the same thing after a wash - I let it sit for a couple of warm days and it went away - You could probably ride yours and achieve the same.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

As others say it is almost certainly water causing the switch to be problematic. Remove the wire and boot and use a small cable tie around the boot on the wire and then seal around the switch with either silicone or just some Vaseline after drying thoroughly.

I think the sending unit/ switch is betwwe. The cilinders, that requires tank removal.  If i were you, id just give it time, it will dry out, you know you have oil right!

That happened to me on my V7C and Griso 1100. No worries.
It was a little scary the first time after an oil change followed by a bike scrubbing. The light went off soon enough, as I knew I had enough oil in the sump.

I took my 1200 Sport out for a ride today first time since washing it this past Monday and the red "SERVICE" triangle light came on the dash and above in the row of lights (but no OIL CAN light). As I rode, occasionally I would shut it off and turn it back on but most of the time it came back on! Should I call my dealer, make an appointment and have them diagnose the code? Might this have anything to do with having washed it on Monday?

I don't have the service code to hand but it's available on the web. Whack it in and my guess is you'll have dashboard 7 & 8. Most likely pressure switch issue. Have you dried and sealed the connection?

It's on the top of the engine under the alternator.

I had the oil sending unit replaced in July by the dealer!?!... because the service light would come on 80% of the time.

What somebody needs to do is develop a washing light that comes on after the oil is changed.
