If I say 'Buttocks' rather than 'Arse' is that better? Also can anybody illuminate me as to how many angels you can get to actually dance on the head of a pin? If they just Pogo can you get more of them on than if they're doing the Twist or the Aligator? :boozing:

I just got censored on this subject.  This forum has gone PC.

There is one censored word.  And it is the "f" bomb.  Been that way since I built the forum so nothing new here in that regard.

There is a difference between colorful and crude.  I think your posts definitely fit into the colorful category.

The lack of internet ugliness here is much appreciated.  A rant from Mr. Roper is a thing of beauty.

Colorful is wonderful , no issues there fellas . Like Luap said , the F bomb is verboten , and yes , like most of us , if I break a part that word will certainly come into play . However , in the time it takes to fire up the pooter and write about it I've normally calmed down a bit .

When the wrench slips and you painfully smash your knuckles, instead of the f bomb just say," Oh the perversity of inanimate objects".  It works.

Yeah, OK, guilty as charged. Generally I try to abide by the limited strictures of WG and accept that there are some who are offended by a good dose of the 'Vernacular' and I generally also try not to offend.

Sometimes I get a few beers in me and my conduct slips. I apologise to those I offend. It isn't intentional and I realise that some are easily offended or upset. It's not my intention.

Arse!

Hmm, well Dusty old man.

I went to the Colorado School of Mines.  Known for creative swearing.  Took me years to adjust.  Remember a Christmas at parents of best friend in Los Altos, CA.  Said:  "pass the +ucking butter".  Did not go down too well with his mother.  His dad, a Stanford grad, locked eyes with me, then spewed in a doubled over laugh.

Yet, I get you.

Then again I have this black T-shirt.  Love the saying.  Saw original in movie about young lady in Sweden.  Will leave it at that.  Have never worn the shirt in public though....gives me a grin in my closet though.  Merde....

This what I tell the high school kids I coach and the inmates that I work with.  Both populations known to use F bombs and every other swear word available.  "Anyone can swear.  It also shows a lack of intelligence.  Think of a good insult instead."

This is pretty much what I would tell my pupils in school.  The "Think of a good insult instead" would have been a nice addition but I did used to add that it showed an inability to use language.

At one point in my life I was driving a school bus from Bluff to Invercargill. Bluff is a port. I suspect ports are the same everywhere. The the air in the bus tended to be distinctly blue. The kids, mostly high school age,  I was carrying were not renown for a co-operative attitudes nor for their inclination to listen to adults.

I put a sign up in the bus which in large letters said;

"Foul language does for the ear pretty much what a dead sheep does for the nose"

While some of the kids had trouble understanding the message, and asked me about it, it made a surprising difference.

I think when it comes to the use of language we have to consider where we are. A forum is not a private conversation. It is an extremely public one.  It's hard enough to circumvent cultural differences without throwing foul language into the pot.

For those on this thread that never have met Pete from OZ.  Well, let's just say that his descriptive insults are amazing.  Very creative and enjoyable.

Well said Sir!

As a member of this community, and we certainly are a community with ties much deeper than our love of the quirky Italian motorcycles we ride,  we should always keep in mind that use of foul language, derogatory terms, or insults reflects on us as individuals and as a community.

As my dear Mother would have said, "use your company manners."

I take it that swearing in foreign languages is recommended, in the sense that it is accepted?

Dangit , we just barely speak English and you want us to catch expletives in Swahili
Once again , this is a matter of exercising some judgement . This is Luap's house , and we are all just guests .

Wasn't the question something about how Luap puts up with us ? Condomed , Freudian slip , or just a bit of trouble with translation ?

I tried  to post something here and there was no "f" in it anywhere.  Maybe Dusty or someone else here deleted my post before it even could be read by anyone else.  It never made the forum.     I was responding to someone here saying if you have to use cuss words to communicate then you are ignorant.  I was pointing out my formal education and why I sometimes use cuss words anyway, without using any in that dissertation.
