Interesting Dinner tonight SGC
« on: June 04, 2016, 01:10:22 AM »
I am TDY in Salt Lake City until the 16th of June.   Across the street from my hotel is a Korean restaurant.   http://www.yelp.com/biz/myung-ga-west-valley-city-3?osq=Korean+Bbq   Never having eaten at a Korean restaurant I thought "what the hell, lets do it" and took my place within its confines. While perusing the menu a young man saunters in wearing a mesh jacket while carrying an Arai helmet. While he is waiting to be seated I inquire what he is riding.  He looks at me and with a slight smile, states "Moto Guzzi".  Which one I ask.  V7 Racer he replies with a smile.  We then engage in a conversation about  Moto Guzzi and the bikes we each own. After a bit of chit chat he proceeds to his table and I turn to my meal which had arrived. After I finish my spicy spare ribs, and the side dishes I pay my bill and depart towards the door to return to my room. I approach his table on my path to the exit, so I tell him "nice to meet you". He extends an invitation to have a seat and we talk some more. For those who know me, this may be hard to believe, but eventually the topic turned to politics. We had a tremendous conversation about politics, and a wide range of topics.  Eventually we part company and I return to my room.  Having packed everything needed for an extended period away from home, except for none work logoed shirts, I decide to go shirt shopping.  Driving down the street an easily identified sound fills my ears; the sound of a Guzzi!   I look to my left and it is Ry Austin, the young man I had chatted with!  It was a thing of joy to hear and see that lovely V7 Racer zip down the boulevard onto I-15/80.  Happiness reigned, along with longing for my Guzzis.  I told Ry about WG, he was unaware of us, and he informed me about the blog he writes, www.twowheelstother e.com .    I hope joins our little campfire, and that you check out his blog.  All in all, a good night, even being away from home.

Didn't we have a lengthy discussion some years back about a Guzzi Pizza restaurant somewhere near SLC?  Parts of my mind still work.

This a pic of what I had.  Number 23 on the menu. Kim Chi, dried seaweed, spicy cucumbers, bean sprouts, seasoned potatoes, and broccoli as sides.  When I walked in to be seated, of the seven tables occupied, five were Asian families.  I couldn't tell you which part of Asia, but Korean would not be a bad guess.  While there, three out of five persons/groups coming into to be seated were Asian.  I took that a s a very good sign that I would get real Korean food, and not an Americanized version.  I really want the authentic food.  I really enjoyed the food, though the service sucked. I thought I was going to starve myself to death trying to eat with the stainless steel chop sticks they gave me to eat with.  I haven't mastered them, but I was better with them when I left than I was when I arrived!!!   Relly fun, enjoyable, and happy experience.

I’m glad to have met you, Stormtruck2, and I—too—thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. You are an interesting, well-informed, thoughtful fellow.

Thank you for the heads-up about this forum—I’ll be sure to wander in from time to time—and I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in and around my great city: May you meet friendly folks, see fascinating places, eat delicious food, and savor our spectacular local brews (believe it or not, folks, Salt Lake City really does have a robust brewery and distillery scene).

Ry, it was truly great to meet you.  Yes, I have found a wee dram or two of the local brews.  In fact, I just happen to have a 6 pack, well it was six when I bought it, of Squatters Hefenweizen American Wheat in the fridge.  I would love to meet up with you again, and have a beer or two.  I really enjoyed our conversation.  Rare to find a person who may differ with you in political opinion, and have a great exchange of ideas and viewpoints.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Dusty and others. I've lurked on plenty of forums over the years, but I've never participated in one. When I have a few free minutes I'll sit down and get a feel for the nuts and bolts of the place (I get the impression that there are a few nuts around here ). One thing's evident: The platform doesn't like text, er, punctuation pasted from a word processor--my bad :embarrassed:.

Matt, I'd get a kick out of meeting up again for a few beers and maybe a bite to eat. Let me get a feel for what the rest of the week has in store for me, as work and family tend to spring stuff on me at the last minute. It appears that I can email you through the forum here, so I'll drop you a line in the next day or two.

Cheers! :boozing:

Please do!!   We need to do an intervention to get her over her resistance to my saving unloved motorcycles from a life of loneliness.

Did your ribs look like this?

Let me know if you want a recipe for the marinade.  There is a bunch of recipes on-line that you can replicate at home.  Drink with this stuff.

No, there were more like spare rib segments.  First that came to my mind was ox tail.  But rather than meat all the way around, it was a piece of meat on one side, with a membrane going around the rest of the bone.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galbi#/media/File:Korean_cuisine-Galbijjim-06.jpg Much like this.   It also gave me a hankering for ox tail soup.  I have some tail in the freezer, time to make soup!!

Cut cross the bones.  That's the traditional way to have it.  You get to suck the cooked marrow.  Ox tail soup is a favorite out here.  Cooked with raw peanuts, star anise, Chinese 5 spice, cilantro and ginger.  Serve with steamed white rice on the side.

So Tom, are you coming my place to cook, or me to yours to eat???  I love trying food that is truly foreign to me.  I have had somethings that didn't get past the glottis before it reversed directions.  But by far the majority have been wonderful delights.   :food:
