I need a seat

I'm the proud new owner of a 2009 California Vintage.

one thing I realized quickly is for me at 6 feet the seat crowds me just a bit and it rubs my tail bone till it bleed.

Looking for sugestions.

I did look for some answers before asking but seemed to miss what I'm sure is here

I have s Russell day-long on my EV, I love it. It's 1" + taller than stock so it stretches your legs out a little.

The cheap thing would be to raise the seat with a seat pad or blocks underneath.  More expensive would be the seat builders.  It depends on if you need more height, or if your butt needs to be further back.

If you consider rebuilding from stock, I find a little height goes a loooong way on dramatically improving ergos on the Tonti/Cali's. My Maund Custom isn't much taller than stock but the flatter/less dished profile and the height make my 34" inseam feel far more extended.

I too am 6ft and I had Sargent re-do my CALVIN seat. They made the front section almost level with the rear and I had the super-cell foam installed. On top of the seat  I use a sheepskin pelt that I got from High Plains sheepskin in Montana. Not only is it taller, it is cooler and doesn't hurt my butt like the stock one did. Price was very reasonable. Papa, are you in N. Utah?  If so, maybe we could meet and you could sit on my 07 CALVIN seat to see if the setup would work for you. I'm in SE Idaho and was thinking of riding out to Bear lake sometime this month.

The Russell on my Bassa looks and feels great, but maybe it's not so good on the California, since [Cam3412] feels strongly about them.

Or you could have your butt moved - they can do that nowadays.

I'm very pleased with the seat. Since I have the Black Calvin I had to have the skunk stripes & they were the only place that made it look correct in my opinion.

I've had both Maund and Ned's seats on my Calis. Now I work with a local upholsterer. He works on the seat, I take the seat with the cover tacked on and ride it a week or two. Bring it back. Too soft. Put in hard foam, cut it back two inches so I have more room, my wife doesn't need all her seat. Monday I stopped in for  1/2 inch of soft foam to put over the stiffer foam. Feels great. I'll bring it back tomorrow and have him wrap it up. I sent both my Maund and Ned's seats back for modifications. They turned out to be nice seats, but cost too much money!!!! You have to pay to ship them back an forth. My Calvin seat has the same cover it came with and looking at it you probably wouldn't even know anything was done, but there's a big improvement in comfort.

They look like an ass that is not sore!  I just ride my bikes (a lot). I seldom stand and gaze at them. But when I do I think the russell Seat looks comfortable, which I appreciate more than sexy.

I just sat on my Daylong (on my FJR) for 4 days and 1650 miles.  The first and last days were 560 miles each.  I had a few aches afterward but none were associated with my butt and lower back.  I've had days between 600-800 miles on that seat without issue.  A motorcyclist won't worry about looks of a seat when function is of utmost importance   A biker might, but a motorcyclist won't.

Question #1 - how often do you look at your seat while out riding?

Question #2 - shouldn't something look like what it's supposed to match up to?

My current Russell (on my Norge) now has some 80,000+ miles on it, still looks darn good in terms of the materials, and looks absolutely perfect to me when I am heading out to sit on it. That being said, I have had a Corbin in the past (roughly 100,000 miles on the one for my V-Strom) and they can be good, but I wouldn't say they look any better. Seats aren't for being pretty - they're for comfort, and for helping you be in control (through good ergo design).

Corbin lists a leather dual seat for the CalVin models.  I recently took delivery of one for my 2004 Stone Touring and it's typical Corbin.  Well made on THEIR pan and while very firm, is very comfortable.  I specified 1" taller which Corbin did at no extra charge tho it took longer.  I'm sure they would do 2" over standard for you.  It will take about 6 weeks for the seat to arrive.  You can get a skunk design or other options.  Cost is $493 plus shipping and tax if in CA.

Sexy is sexy no denying that.....this seat is sexy!

 I'd like to hear more about comfort both front and rear passengers

Comfort wise it's sufficient for me and the passanger. The stock seat just isn't shaped right and causes pinch points. The Ned's is wider and more importantly flatter and spreads your weight out across the seat. 500 miles days are easy peasy! SWMBO (passanger) approves of the seat as well!
