10th digit VIN pre-2000

Hi,
I found a post on decoding MG VIN which says the 10th digit is year (0=2000 for example).  My 10th digit is X.  What year is that please?  Bike is registered as 1999 EV11, but experience tells me that sometimes a "leftover" bike can be registered under a later year. Anyone have the pre-2000 year codes? Thanks!

B=1981
C=1982
D=1983
E=1984
F=1985
G=1986
H=1987
J=1988
K=1989
L=1990
M=1991
N=1992
P=1993
R=1994
S=1995
T=1996
V=1997
W=1998
X=1999

start with A as 0, C as 1 etc. Do not count letters such as B I or O that can be confused with numbers. (B can look like an 8 and D like a 0 for example.) Therefore, the first ten digits are A C E F G H J K L M. After the next decade using numbers is used, resume the alpha series with N P Q R S T U V W X. The first year is always zero. (A and N)

That really doesn't happen in The USA since the 17 digit VIN was fully adopted 30 years ago.

The tenth digit tells you what the production model year is on any vehicle, and that is consistent worldwide, now.

They run through numbers 1-9, then go to letters.  The letters U and Z and the digit 0 are not used for the model year code.

Further info, if you want it:

1st - 3rd digits - ZGU = Italy, Moto Guzzi
4th - 8th digits - KD0KD (or whatever) = model information
9th digit is a mathematical check digit
10th digit is the year model.  In your case, "X" being 1999.
11th digit is the plant code.  On Guzzi "M" is for Mandello del Lario.
12th - 17th digits are the production sequence.
