RIDE with Norman Reedus...any thoughts?
« on: June 16, 2016, 05:30:20 PM »
New show on AMC network.  Reedus is an actor and motorcycle guy.  He reached the big time in the show Walking Dead, where he plays a motorcycle riding badass, who kills zombies with a crossbow like he means it!

Anyway the shows first episode, he and a chick road up the Pacific Highway, having fun, and stoping at some interesting stops long the way.

My review,  for what it is, I liked it.  It is better than any thing seen on TV about motorcycle culture that I have seen.   Yea, sure he is a bit Hollywood, but there would be no show if he weren't so, I get that.  Yes, its a bit scripted, but how else are you going to do it and make it interesting enough for the great unwashed?   He rode a Duc motored, and then a Roland Sands  bmw 9T.   He really does seem like an enthusiast, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some Guzzi content in the weeks ahead.

I was mildly disappointed with it.  I've got it on DVR and will keep up with it.  I was planning a trip up that stretch of the PCH later in the summer, so I paid attention to it.

In other news, I was watching Jay Leno's garage and Alonzo Bodden was wearing a Guzzi TShirt.

I liked it. If you Consider they made the show to be palatable for a broad audience, they did a good job. My wife enjoyed it and she hates car/bike shows.

I know it's a purely personal, subjective and aesthetic issue but good gawd man... Frikken buy some shampoo and take the glasses off when addressing someone!

I so very much wanted to like it but can't get past these (what many would call superficial) issues.

Might as well be wearing a wife-beater with "Born To Lose" tattoos. And I like the guy or at least the actor.

Leno's Garage is the only thing Jay Leno's put on TV that I've appreciated (besides some guest spots on "My Classic Car ".
I like what's in the Barn. Café Racer is painful to watch.

It was good enough for me to watch again. Probably has a pretty low budget as they breeze right by a lot of spectacular places like they are pressed for time. I was expecting a bit more something like Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's Long Way Down and Long Way Around which I really enjoyed. This seems to be more personality driven. Kind of funny that they have so many shots of the chick riding companion standing up while she is riding or putting her feet behind her on the seat. Anyway, it is about people getting out and exploring on their bikes which is a cool thing for sure.

Norm seems to be a friend of all the guys in the south.  Makes regular appearances at the Dragon hangouts just to talk to folks and ride around.  I think he is just a real bike guy and is not wrapped up in his popularity.  My daughter has met him and he seems to be about as down to earth as you can get.

PS no I didn't watch the show.  Don't really care about watching people ride bikes or drive cars.  Heck, even most youtube clips are boring as mud.

Watched it and went down memory lane as I rode the same roads when I lived there and lost count of 1/101 runs up and down the coast...  For the most part I thought the program was "M e h"...
Nothing particularly interesting about it unless you want to see what CA roads look like.. :^)

It's a TV show with motorcycles and people who ride them. I don't take it too seriously.

Finally was able to watch the show.  If you're neophyte to motorcycling then maybe.  I was okay with watching it.  No huge faves for it.

Saw a custom Guzzi in a scene filmed at Sosa's Metal Works. The guy rides and used to work at a MC shop.  Gotta count for something.

Dialog is a bit lame though.

Todd.

I would imagine he has to keep his hair looking like that to maintain continuity on Walking Dead. They have a funky shooting schedule in Georgia, and he may have to fly back at a moments notice to shoot or re-shoot a scene. Who knows?

The wife looked up that Airstream Park to see how much to stay there...$249/night!

Yikes! He should've shared a trailer with that Kiwi chick.

I like his narration...reminds me of that show that was on when Velocity was the Speed Channel. Can't remember the name but they covered Jesse James and some other companies. Rides, maybe? I think that Jason kid from 90210 narrated a few of them.

I like it, but I won't be bummed if I miss an episode.

I get that in general except he sports that look in 2/3 or more of his roles.... So - I guess credit for remaining true to himself then, maybe.

Yes.  I'm finding the people he visits, like Mr. Sosa are more "authentic" than he is, whatever that means.  Didn't like how he poo-poohed the hearing protectors, when he tried out the pneumatic hammer machine.  I've very pro safety gear; Norman strikes me as the kind of guy who would use a high speed grinding wheel without eye protection; goggles are for sissies, etc.   But like the others have said, I'll keep watching it for the season.
