PHSC jet removal
« on: June 25, 2016, 10:32:08 AM »
I was finally able to get the left carb off my V65c for installing a rebuild kit.  Have taken both carbs apart except for this.  Any suggestions for removal before I attempt to drill it out?  There was a lot of corrosion in the float bowl and I broke the tip of a needle off in the jet in an attempt to clean it out, so it has to be replaced.

Wow La Mojo,  Looks like you might be able to get a bite on that screw with a pair of needle nose vise grips. They make a pair of really small ones. If not you'll need to carefully remove the head with a dremel, soak with penetrant then remove the body. Then you can deal with the remainder of the screw.
I would use the drill as a last resort. My .02$ Good Luck.

Dynamite...

Seriously, i would use a good penetrant now (not WD 40) then wait overnight and then try it with the vicegrips.

expansion rates between the bronze and the aluminum are different enough that you should try heating the aluminum and putting a drop of water on the jet. then use small vice grips to unscrew.

Finally got it out by worrying it with a large pair of electrician's pliers that has cross hatched pattern on the end.  The small vice grips kept slipping off.

Thanks for the ideas.

Hope to have it back on the road next week.
