I'm Flashing!
« on: June 30, 2016, 06:56:44 PM »
Strange things are going on with my 2014 Norge.  Just about every time I start it, it starts flashing the hazard lights.  I can press the hazard button, the indicators, the computer button (above the indicator button) and I can turn the handlebars left and right but nothing seems to turn them off.  They seem to be pulsing on and off themselves as sometimes they flash a bit erratically.  They carry on, sometime as I ride down the road but, so far, they've always stopped after a km or so.  Has anyone else come across this?  Any advice?

Thanks

Have you added any lighting??? Also, perhaps a dirty connector / bulb socket ... Finally check the wiring harness (where visible for signs of frays and abrasions.. Sound like the electric value of the circuit is not what the computer expects.

It only just passed 3,000 km today and it's only been wet once.  The suspect voltage angle seems worth looking into a bit further - but he is kept on a battery tender when in the garage.

Get inside the fairing and disconnect the dash connector and reconnect it.  That connector can do all kinds of funky stuff. Just make sure to seat and latch it properly when you put it back together.

I see what you mean.  I cut my hand just investigating what's involved.  I think I can get at it enough from the front.  I somebody going to tell me otherwise?

lol, I dunno, I did it and I am about as geezerish and inflexible as you can get and still ride a motorcycle.
I will admit I had to remove the windscreen, the windscreen motor cover and the large handful of tiny screws that hold the fascia in place in the fairing.
No, I did not mention that he is guaranteed to lose at least two of those unobtanium screws and that the weather gasket between the fascia and the tank is almost certain to fall in to the most inaccessible place possible on top of the motor.
I guess I was not a great friend.  :(

Oh my, now my memory is starting to come back.  I think my brain blocked this experience.  There is no shortcut to this.
You will need to completely remove the windscreen and take ALL of the screws out of the fascia to lift the fascia and dash up.  You should be able to rest one side or the other of the fascia on top of a mirror so things are accessible.
Then you will find a huge hulking connector with a locking lever arm that connects the dash to the harness.  At that point you can unclamp the connector and take it apart.
When you put the connector back together be careful, there is a false stop where the connector will seat and latch without engaging the pins, so make sure you have it fully inserted before closing the clamp.
Because I am working from a faulty memory and I don't want to do evil, if you want I will take mine apart and take pictures of the process, or we could even get on the phone and do this side by side.
