Post Deletion on other Guzzi Site
« on: July 01, 2016, 04:53:13 AM »
On GuzziTech they had a thread about 820cc big bore kits for the V7, which were sold by GuzziTech.  I added to the thread with a summary of my 820cc big bore kit, from R.A.M. of Italy, bought via Agostini.

My post was deleted by admin, for "Conflict of Interest/Products."

So I can't share info there, if it's get in the way of GuzziTech making more coin?

For what it's worth, here a link to R.A.M. :  http://www.rammotor.it/

I recently posted there to suggest to a new V7 owner who was having some idle/running problems that he try GuzziDiag to verify there were no trouble codes and perhaps the associated map reader/writer to try a new map.

The post disappeared by the next morning with no explanation.

Seems to me to be a bad strategy to prevent your members and customers from getting the help they need.

Todd is very possessive of his site and does not like any mention of any other discussion boards of products not his own. He also can't diagnose a bad side stand switch.

Yeah, it is an odd site.  Lot of good info there but when it comes to competing products to something he offers it is usually an issue for him.  I would have loved one of his own exhaust but 2x the price of Mistral.  I did get my ECU re-flashed so maybe not as much an issue I guess.  I see what you guys are saying though but all these forums in one way or another are policed the way the owner sees fit.

There is a reason why WG continues to grow and other sites are withering . We have the best experts and exchange of information for MG on the web . No need to bash Todd , his site is designed to advertise his products , WG is designed to promote Guzzi in general W/O selling you anything .

My 2 cents worth
With as few Moto Guzzi dealers and parts suppliers that are out there for us, I think we should try be supportive of them all.

My dealings with Todd has been very positive both with the products he sells and his service and help after the sale.

Yeah.  Todd is a good guy.

You just have to remember that his forum is a company forum, supporting the Guzzitech brand.

He is a good resource.

I think a forum that appears to offer a free exchange of views, but quietly suppresses those that interfere with sales of its products, is not worthy of support. We all make choices that influence the kind of internet we can expect to enjoy. I choose not to frequent that forum because of this apparent policy. Todd can do what he wants, but so can I, and you can too. If we all simply post here, we can avoid wasting our efforts there and simplify our collective pursuit of information.

And as for supporting dealers, I see no reason why Todd shouldn't be expected to compete as others do, without running an in-house organ that biases discussion. His choice, his consequence.

I like Todd's site and I've bought from his store.  As long as you know that he doesn't like competing products pimped there then all is good; you just don't mention competing products when you post.  Or you don't post at all and just use it as a resource as he doesn't seem to mind that approach either.

Yeah he scrubs the site and doesn't like you to mention anything but his product so yes it really isnt a forum in so much as his marketing tactics, but as others have said he does provide some good product options and I have purchased a couple of things from him with mixed results. As for the big bore what I'd really like to see and probably never will unless someone does it and posts it up here is a dyno test before and after. I can't see putting 1 or 2K into that engine when the V9 bone stock just might out perform what the big bore get would get me. But then again, I like my Racer better than the Roamer or Bobber.

I didn't suggest not buying from him. I just recommend posting where you can expect a free discussion! This seems like a simple distinction.

The problem is that a company with quality products should be able to stand up to competition on their own merits.

If the only way a Guzzitech product can thrive is in the absence of competition or the attempted embargo on information about alternatives, then what is being offered must not be up to par.

And though I have been and would again be a customer of Todd's, I'm a little skeptical of some of his methods. He seems to sterilize his site of references to competition, but has no problem copying someone else's product (like the smallblock oil dipstick tool he recently started offering).

In the case of Guzzitech he's denying troubleshooting knowledge to his own board members in hopes of selling them an ECU reflash? That's in gray moral area to me.

And if you consider he accepts DONATIONS to keep board running then I say that crosses a line. You can't have it both ways in my book.

This is what I'm talking about.  He didn't post on the attributes of his product or the failings of the Italian product, he quietly deleted my post, so no one see any mention of another product.

It's censorship.

I just can't believe anyone is still purchasing an ECU flash when you can change the map as many times as you wish using GuzziDiag software.

I don't go to that forum for reasons that "Kev m" posted.

I will give Guzzitech credit: they had an excellent (maybe even necessary) thread on the VDST from Technoresearch.  I'm not sure if that thread is still up.

Isn't the VDST effectively obsolete thanks to GuzziDiag, or is it still necessary for some older models with which GuzziDiag wouldn't communicate?

It is obsolete, but if you had it "back in the day" then Guzzitech had an excellent thread on making it work.  It's moot now, with the added benefits of GuzziDiag and other systems.

Apparently he lurks on WG and saw this thread.

I'll say it again; you shouldn't have a purportedly open forum and then silently delete posts mentioning other products.  Just stand tall.

+1, as someone who has made a living on internet forums for the last 13 years the most successful are those that let things be, IMHO.  Deleting/censoring posts strictly due to "product conflict" is sooooo 1990's.....

I understand your view, and share its sentiment - but I've had posts deleted in a number of forums (fora?) including this one. While I didn't always agree that there was a valid reason for their removal, they weren't my forums to run, to manage, to pay for - or to guide. If I felt strongly about it, I raised the matter with the forum's owner(s); if not, I let it slide. Besides (this being Independence Day), I'll quote a founding father (actually, Liebling paraphrasing Franklin) who said "freedom of the press belongs to those who own one".

Luap has set out what he thinks is best for Wildguzzi and his goals for it, Todd will do the same, the gang at AF1 will make their own decisions, and so on. Any of us might manage them differently than the person making those choices, but we aren't in that position. As for bans, that is much the same matter - and raising complaints in other forums is likely to make any moderator think the person involved is 'not playing nicely'. I don't recall - did you say whether you'd sent him a note asking why your post had been deleted, and if so did he respond?

Todd doesn't just lurk here.  He has posted on WG for many years.  His handle here is "GT-Rx "

Maybe you should consider emailing him directly, asking him what's up.

He's good about answering emails.
