Still on for Gilhoolies tomorrow.
I believe they open at 11AM.
Earlier the better for me to beat some of the heat.
We can even sit inside in the AC.

Poodle walk first, then obligatory phone call to 95 year old mom.

Trying to figure out route....the peninsula is just that.....

Hope not to spin in circles looking for the place...

Oh man, I just can't get a break.  Talked to mom in Durango.  She lives Assisted Living, age 95, nearly blind, very slow movement.  She fell at breakfast.  Admin also then called me and said:  chief nurse exam:  nothing broken.  Mom was crying, very upsetting fall in front of everyone I guess.

So,  Admin wants to talk to me shortly.  Policy is:  falls are cause for discharge.  Next step is another facility, basically shared room with beds, and true emergency care with doctors on staff.  Hoping this all works out.  Not much up for the crisis move, once again.

Was just about to ride out to meet Dave and Paul.  Can't seem to catch a break.  Its either Alzheimer's with my FIL, or mom just falling apart.

Sorry for my rant.  It has been a tough couple weeks.

So to finish the story:  got off phone with Admin at assisted living.  They will do formal evaluation next week.  I will deal with whatever happens, and I will avoid a Durango emergency trip if at all possible.  Done several of those the past couple years.

Ok. fine, its 10:15, was planning to leave 9:30 or so.  Take off east on highway 6 towards coast.  Get to Ft. Bend parkway, big construction at bridge.  Detour, then car wreck spotted, huge backup, cops cleaning up:  broiled in sun.  Finally escaped and did a U-turn with masses of cagers and trucks, and rode home.

Seems I can't even make a lunch across Houston.  Should have checked road conditions and traffic.  Wanted to avoid drone on 59 and Beltway 8 and 45:  freeway misery.

One thing about the V7R:  takes the extreme heat in stride, no issues at all.  Guess I will grill a burger and have a beer.

Some good news though:  the woman in Durango killed on the motorcycle was NOT my friend.  Same name, same age--still sad, but happy she is
alive.  Did not find that out until reading obit.

Next lunch is on me.

Better luck next time LD.

Hope Mom is doing better.

We'll try a little closet to you side of town next time.

Paul and I had a fine lunch.  Paul is a hale fellow and fine conversationalist.

I didn't order the Oysters Gilhoolies (house specialty) in deference to Paul's shellfish aversion.  Paul did order some boudain balls, I lied and told him they were fried sausage balls.  Didn't have the heart to tell him that they are actually the testes of the nearly extinct boudainaconda a prehistoric snake-like creature found deep in the Louisiana Bayous.

Well...that was a fun ride...with side roads and Twisty routes, i managed to get in a fun 140 miles to test out Beetle's new Norge map, the Nero Corsa Agostini muffler, my newly installed custom made Cal-Sci 1/2 Shorty 1/2 Medium windscreen, a set of new red hand grips installed last night in the garage while Robert Cray was playing, and enjoyed a wonderful smooth ride out to visit my island buddy Dave!  We had a fine lunch, covered all the relevant topics in the world and enjoyed some rather tasty Boudainaconda balls courtesy of Gillhoohayeshagan bar!  You almost had me going there!!

Hope you can make it out next time Greg...it was toasty, but with about 4-5 ice teas at lunch, 2 more on the way home in the canteen, all is good.  Stood in the front yard, down to my shorts and turned on the garden hose for me and the labrador...very refreshing at 100 F...dried in all of about 30 seconds.

One or more cold Negra Modelos coming up!!  Here's to you Chris!!  Cheers for Lowell, the River and the Wilderness Inn and our adventures up north!

Mmmmmmm, yummy.  I loves them boudinaconda balls.  I try to have 'em when I visit my Louisianer friends.  Glad y'all had a good lunch and a good ride there.
