Dealer that dropped MG wants to give current owners "A Special Deal"

Got a "courtesy" call at work from the dealer in SLC, UT I bought a V7R from. First the sales rep told me it was a courtesy call to let me know they were dropping the Moto Guzzi brand. I've already known this for 3-5+ months when they first did it. Second, he wanted to know if I still owned the V7R because the dealer wanted to "take care of the guys that bought MG's" and offer us a SPECIAL DEAL not offered to anybody else on any of the other brands they carry such as Triumph...BMW...Apr illa...Ducati etc. Told him no thanks and hung up. Not even remotely interested in what they have to say.

TJ, you're right..I left out the part that this is the same dealer that at the second service fessed up to getting the fluid levels mixed up between the final drive and gear box (putting the wrong capacities in) and me riding it for 3,200 miles before finding out and then telling me to keep riding it and if anything goes wrong they would step up and fix it. When I asked for something in writing to support this the sales manager offered me a $50.00 gift card.

Highly unlikely, they had no oil filters for the V7 (the MG they sold the most of and had the highest number of sitting on the floor) in stock the day I found out they were dropping the brand. The day I bought the bike I ordered some OEM replacement parts just to have them (knowing how slow they are to come in). In a little over 2 years they never arrived. I stopped asking after the first year.

Lots of dealers, especially car dealers, do this kind of thing even if they're not going out of business.   The "Dropping Guzzi" thing just provided another angle to play from.

We get letters and calls from the dealer from which we bought our car on a regular basis begging us to come trade it in (they say they have lots of buyers for late-model low mileage cars) on a new one.

We're a good target.  We paid cash, they know we have money (or did once), they know we like that model car; any advertising directed at US has 1000 times the chance of a hit from a cold call ...

They probably want you to trade your Guzzi in on a Ducati ... they know people don't look at the cost of the new bike, they just want to be able to say "Look what the dealer gave me on my trade-in!" without realizing that they paid WAY more for the new bike as a result.

Second-oldest profession, you know.

You don't stay in business by losing money. Just so happens about 20 minutes ago my daughter texted that she wants to run to Cycle Gear tomorrow to see about picking up a RAM mount to replace an OKRA mount she just bought but is unhappy with. Gives me an excuse to car pool down with her to check on a pair of Thor pants I'm interested in  for atv'ing. That dealer is two/maybe three blocks away. If they happen to have a used or even new in crate (doubt it) Triumph ACE Café Thruxton I might just listen to their schtick. Regardless, the V7R isn't leaving my garage, except maybe to move over to my youngest daughters since she claimed dibs on it to sit alongside her 883 Iron.  Funny thing, we looked at V7's before we bought the Sportster for her and she wasn't remotely interested. Now she keeps talking about wanting to take the Racer home every time she's over here.

   I'll ping back on this thread with the details of their offer if I head over there.

I gave up on the local "dealer".  No parts, no service but they can order a Guzzi for me. They'll take a Guzzi in trade if I buy a new HD.
    I use to show up on a different Guzzi just to let them know that there not the only way to buy a Guzzi.

So, last week the dealer got back with me. The dealer had dropped the Guzzi brand and was calling MG owners to offer them a deal if they wanted to get off their bikes. The 'special' deal was that if I decided to trade the 2014 V7R in they would give me full NADA which I think was $7100 or $7400. Salesman said this offer only applied if I wanted to purchase a Ducati, not the "in high demand" Triumph ThruxtonR (the only bike I was interested in on the lot) or other brands they had on they carried (least that's how I understood it).  I'll keep the Racer.
