help on Continental F163 tractor engine

I have a F163 flathead in a wood chipper. The engine has 12 hours on it since total rebuild. It has a slight miss I'm trying to fix. I'm setting the valves and Continental wants them set at operating temp. So I'm doing it cold. Hot is sposed to be IN .012, EX .020. A search of the internet has the setting cold all over the map, my notes say .018 both cold. What say you?

My search found .010 In .020 Ex HOT.
They sure want to make sure those valves are well seated.

its a flathead. It will not be set hot. To access the tappets the carb is removed. A parts guy who claimed he was experienced some years ago said they always set them cold and it was at .018 both. Do I believe him? Im leaning that way, just thought Id ask here, seems like a good idea

Flathead valve train is short and unlike an OHV, expansion of the block and push-rods with temperature , the flattie valve clearance can be be off a bit and not be an issue. Typical side valve clearances for smaller Continental engine is .014 on both ,cold....

I'll volunteer, but you won't like it. I rivet my bondo on. You know I do.
