Cheap Welding & Grinding Curtain
« on: July 31, 2016, 10:03:20 PM »
I am often too lazy in the winter to move the car out of the garage when I need to grind or weld something and too many times the grinding lands on the car, not good.
So long before winter returns and now that I bought a new welder I splurged the $70 bucks for a welding curtain and from Home Depot a cheap curtain rod for $10 bucks and some shelf brackets and I have a curtain I can quickly slide into place and save the paint on the car.

I screwed the shelf bracket to the ceiling and then bolted the curtain rod bracket to the shelf bracket. I used a chain link, bulk box from Home Depot for about $16 bucks, double up the little rollers that glide on the curtain track to each eyelet on the curtain.

For well under $100 I have a flame and UV retardant curtain and no more excuses to isolate my welding and grinding from the rest of the shop.

My off shore (China or Taiwan??) milling machine has crapped out for the third time, never blows a fuse, just burns out motors cutting aluminum, POS!! It's back at the repair depot where it sits for weeks on end before I get a call that it needs parts that takes weeks and weeks to get. I wish I had not been so cheap (Guzzi content) and bought a machine of decent quality rather than sinking $2K into this money pit. :Beating_A_Dead_Hors e_by_liviu

If only I had a another 100 square feet of shop space a Bridgeport would be sitting on the floor.

I got welding curtains from a welders supply but they are heavy white things, makes them hard to use, 25 bones . I like yours, I'll get some like it, easier to use. I'm in a constant battle against grinding and welding dust, air circulation filters and all that but it still gets all over.
