The V65TT restoration project
« on: August 01, 2016, 03:43:54 PM »
I bought a 1986 V65TT serial number 1 about a year and a half ago and have been working with Harper's Moto Guzzi in getting it mechanically restored. It was a 22 K miles bike according to the odometer and had been cared for pretty well but needed some restoration mechanically.
Curtis, Mike and Carlos were able to find all the parts I needed and did the mechanical work. It is almost 100% stock or NOS about the only thing that is aftermarket may be the mirrors. I will have to ask Curtis....they may be NOS as well.
I have decided to leave the bike with its original patina from a cosmetic stand point.
I feel like I am a steward to this old rare "ODD DUCK" and I wanted to be able to ride it and make it better that when I got it. If I do ever sell it ...it will be to someone who wants to continue to ride it and be the next steward of the TT.
I spent more than I should have to make it whole but it is a great rider with years of service ahead of it!
before restoration
I will add pictures as soon as I figure out how to !
Guzzi's in the barn then and ... now:
2013 Guzzi Stelvio
1986 Guzzi V 65 TT (keeper!)
1985 Guzzi Le Mans IV ( sold after riding 26k miles on it)
1980 Guzzi v50 II (sweet! and sold)
2009 Guzzi Stelvio (Rode it 30k + in 2 years sad but gone)
2000 Guzzi Quota (sold but want another!

It is a good basic bike, but it has some niggling design flaws that can easily be corrected/improved at not much cost.
1-ditch the dual points in favor of Dyna-S electronic ignition.
2-the transmission will puke oil on top.  Simple hose kit to capture and return the oil.
3-starter wiring circuit is, um, well, 'circuitous' to say the least.  You'll eventually get the dreaded 'click'.  Easy rewire at the relay socket to improve the flow of electrons.

Are you 100% sure its is serial number 1?

I have a January 1984 V65TT and its number 215

Lovely bike, I have 2, one dismantled and stored in bits for a rainy day, and my V7 Stone powered TT

As said above dyna s kit and raised gearbox breather.  Watch out for odd knocking noises when hot as you pull the clutch in... Ran my v65 engine on 10w60 and it was much happier.

Fit Monza primary gears and make it nicer to ride, never trust the fuel taps to give you reserve.....

If you want to post photos from FB, all you need to do is open the photo full-sized, right click on it, select "copy image address", then come here to WG, click on the "insert image" icon, right click and paste it in between the brackets. Like so:

So your frame number is pv11111? or is it first just the first imported to usa?

RHS Side cover is strangely notched to clear the carb, neither of my TT have the panels ground back
