Sluggish starts
« on: August 04, 2016, 08:39:33 AM »
Hi Peeps,

I am the proud owner of  a 2014 V7 Stone. Good bike although a bit high-maintenance.

For a little while now but only on some occasions, my bike runs sluggish after start. By sluggish I mean the bike isn't responsive to the throttle and feels like it is about to choke as I turn the throttle.

This goes away after about a minute of running once the engine warms up. Note that I recently replaced my plus and caps with new NGK ones as per the threads circulating on this board. I also adjusted my clutch cable.

Any ideas of what the cause could be? Startus Interruptus? Is it a mapping issue (My bike still uses the OEM map)?

This sounds like a mapping issue.  Guzzi has an updated map for the V7 (your '14 might already have that map...only way to know is via something like Guzzidiag).  Startus Inturruptus is when the engine either will not crank or turns over slowly when you hit the starter button.  It's not in play once the engine is running.

My '13 V7 should be virtually identical to your '14.  I have a non OEM map and do not have a stalling when cold issue.

It's not Startus Interuptus, that's refusal or reluctant to start.
If it's only sluggish sometimes I don't think it's the map.

Do you think it's missing on one cylinder?

No, regarding one cylinder only. I am assuming I would be able to hear this - correct?

Not since I installed them. But they are brand new... about two weeks old. Like I said, I replaced them with higher quality NGKs recently.

Cheers,

Mike

I am not concerned about the age , curious about the A/F ratio .

1) The V7 likes to be warmed up. Start the bike, then gear up. Usually good to go after that.

2) Make sure it's got the latest map.

3) Change your plugs to the CPR8EA-9, and plug caps to XD05F or XD05FP.

Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

In what way?

As far as the sluggishness goes, could be mapping. The Breva may give the odd burp going from open to closed loop, but that only happens after about 1/2 a mile.
