Kev M is right on the history of QC with Moto Guzzi but as discussed on numerous times.  QC is apparent here because it is a MG discussion.  No manufacturer is without warts even Honda has a recall out for their Goldwings that have an airbag as oem equipment.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

If I was to buy a 1400, First thing would be to increase fuel capacity to obtain a 180-200 mile range.

Stock tank is capable of this.

If you keep it at or below 75 you achieve that (5 gal x 39 mpg = 195 miles).  On a recent 1,700 mile trip I consistently saw 40-42 mpg between stops (calculated at the gas pump, not by the bike's computer).

On a recent trip (almost all secondary roads) I got about 35 mpg. Not great, but not bad for a big, heavy cruiser. And mileage has never been a big concern, since I ride in the east where gas stations are pretty much everywhere.

My Custom has about 4000+ miles.  I like it a lot.  But a couple of caveats...

Rubber-mounted engine shakes a LOT at idle.  Like a Harley Rubber-Glide.  Some people like it, I guess.

Rear shocks are fancy-looking but have WAY too much compression damping and are a pita to change spring preload.

Seat no good for passenger, at all.  And if you're tall, your left knee will make repeated contact with the left cylinder.  I had to have mine rebuilt with a more rearward seating position.  Seat now even worse for passenger.

Bars too far forward for me, even before the seat mod, installing Touring bars was a big deal with cable/hydraulic line re-routing.

Steering heavy at parking lot speeds, even with fork legs dropped now 20mm.  I'll have to change the rear tire soon and I'm hoping a 180 might improve things, but I'll guessing not.  I believe the triple clamp changes they made to the Eldo brought back the 'neutral' feel I've had with every other Guzzi I've owned.  The Custom definitely does NOT have that, not at walking speed.

Having said all the above, the machine is a hoot.  Feels great once it gets going, handles very well at any speed over 20mph.  And a real weirdo, which is  saying something coming from Guzzi.
