V7 II slow to start after gas stop
« on: August 06, 2016, 05:25:42 PM »
Hey, guys,

I hopped on the bike to go get gas this afternoon, and stopped
at a Philips 66 gas station. I filled up with non-ethanol gas (first
time doing that). Anyway, 92° F, but I had to get out of the
house (hope I never have to move again).

Got back on the bike, turned the key, and got rrr-rrr-rrr, rrr-rrr-rrr,
slowly. I turned key off then back on, then got rrr-rrr-RR, rrr-rrr-RRRVrooom
slowly again, and then it started and idled fine.

It sounded like the bike wasn't going to start. YIKES!! I thought I was going to
be stuck at the gas station.

Other than that, the bike ran great, and no other hiccups.

Any ideas what would cause that?

As always, I appreciate your wisdom.

Jim

A common fault with bikes with the charcoal canister seems to be the tank pressurising, especially in hot weather. If it happens again, try venting the tank.

Happens to mine on occassion, even AFTER the canisterectomy.  Right after filling up.  No clue.

Overfilling WITH a carbon can can burp a little gas into the can, and you need to run a little to get the fumes out.  Overfilling WITHOUT a carbon can can burp a little gas into the throttle bodies.  Then you deal with a shot of raw gas in the intake to overcome before the engine will start v dealing with fumes and a little rough running after you start.  But remember -- the canister is evil.  It must be eradicated!

Or you could not overfill the tank or spill gas into the vent tube.  That works, too.
