Clutch Noise
« on: August 19, 2016, 09:19:26 AM »
Hi again,

Just posted another thread, but wanted to keep these two separate.

I've recently, about two months ago, started having this high pitched noise when the clutch is pulled in, i.e. between shifting, but mostly only when I shift into first and only for a few seconds. I know it's hard to explain noises, but in case someone has experienced this and could shed some light on it.

The dealer said that's one of the noises dry clutches make. Obviously.

Thanks a lot!

'14 V7.

Sounds a lot like a throw-out bearing.  Don't know what the dealer is talking about.  Dry clutches don't make noise if everything works correctly.  (except for a Breva 750, at idle, without pulling on the clutch lever when it goes clunkety, clunkety, clunkety etc.)

What event, if any, preceded the onset of the noise? Maintenance, either by you or the dealer? Otherwise shifting & behaving normally?

SeanF, it's a good question. Had it serviced by the dealer end of April, but the noise definitely started later. Shifting and behavior seems to be normal.

Jurgen, I might be wrong, but seems to me that the dry clutches do make noise over the wet... Ducatis as well... In regards to the through-out bearing, how hard and involving of a job to check that, and if needed to replace/repair?

Thank you all!

Did the dealer change the gearbox oil? Sounds like it may be another case of the 'Technician' adding the Bevelbox oil to the gearbox. If that's the case it will be low enough to bugger a whole load of stuff. Pressure fed gearbox and all.......

I guess you've never pulled alongside a Ducati with an open cover

My '14 V7R often made a high-pitched "SQUEE" noise when shifting that seemed to be coming from the clutch area.  Everything was quiet when stopped (in gear w/ clutch pulled, or in neutral).  Described the condition to MPH and they were not concerned.

Some where around 1000 miles the noise occurred less frequently and finally stopped.  Since then the bike shifts very nicely, and silently.

That's tonight's wallpaper on the 'puter.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.
