good deals still exist
« on: August 30, 2016, 08:16:20 AM »
Untitled by amametUntitled by amamet

not sure if I'm going to restore it, get it running, race it or flip it.  have a few other projects that need some big money. it wasn't free but it was damn close.  no title and hasn't been run in years.  only 1 owner who passed away.

I don't see anything that needs "restoring" - maybe a freshening/tuning/major service, but that's about all.

just light cosmetic restoring, oxidation on the metal, cases etc...  Actually meant just a cleaning not restoring.  that word is used too much with old bikes these days, thx for reminding me of that.  for the price of an expensive dinner i can't go wrong i guess

What are you going to do with no title?  Did you buy it in an estate sale?  Looks pretty good. :thumb:

haven't even thought about the title thing yet.  the deal was too good.  i guess apply for a title?  the fellow i got it from, got i from the original owner, who died before he could get the title and keys.  he was owed money and took the bike.  forgot the whole story.  any who he drilled out the ignition to be able to move it.  tank is still locked with gas in it for years.  it turned over when he gave it a little jump.  missing the side stand, thats the only thing i can see missing.  paints faded on the tail and metal is oxidized.  little rust here and there.  i thought about tearing it apart and building a cafe out it with other parts or racing it.  but it too complete and in good enough condition that i can't tear it apart i guess.  I'm building my lemans 1 engine with mike rich so i know i need some cash when i pic up my parts.  that lemans also has the last transmission charlie cole built.  when i get some free time ill figure out what I'm doing with it. ill offer it to this list first if i part with it

Man, that looks just like mine!  Clean it up and make a rider out of it. The Corbin seat is great.I have a heck of alot more than the cost of a nice dinner, invested in mine. You lucked out!
Congratulations,
Rick.

Track down the heirs or looks like a sale for parts.  The heirs to his estate could sign a bill of sale and limited power of attorney for the bike.  Hopefully, they would have the title and can sign off with documentation.

Missing NY title?  Try and see if you can get the title from his estate.

Almost anytime you buy a Guzzi its a good deal. The problem is when you go to sell the buyer is getting a good deal and typically not the seller. Buy it, fix it, ride it, keep it is the only way you'll really make out in the end.

Contacting the original owner's family can backfire , know of a case where the son of a deceased man tried to reclaim a bike claiming it had been stolen . Be vewy vewy careful .

In that scenario.  A police report by the owner before his passing away would make that clear.  What's to say the bike isn't stolen now?

Oh the other deal finally worked out , after paying an attorney and about a year of hassle . Just saying to do some research before acting .

Only problem with that is the estate may have a valid claim to the motorcycle but not if there is proof of the transaction.  It just needs to go through procedures.

You can certainly register it in Vermont-insurane may be a hassle.

I've titled a few bikes that came without one, not hard.

first i need some down time and pop the tank lock, drain it and start the inspection and cleaning process.  it will most definitely see the road in some form or another
