Well, in this case we had a choice between "Standing On Our Rights", trying find a Piaggio agent in this country who would be responsible, waiting however many months or years to "win", and be satisfied that we were "Right" ...
... or, just submitting to their demands, jiggling the numbers to make it conform to their requirements, and get the work done.
We picked the second one in this case. In general, it may not be an issue, but I just wanted to let people know that it WAS an issue in this case. As Always, YMMV!

YMMV? Indubitably.
And, under these — including your stated — circumstances, couldn’t agree more.
My point was that, depending on the issue, one may not not need a lawyer to get something done via the small-claims-court process.
And, if a corporation doesn’t appear at SC, well, the court — which often has little sympathy for big business and even less for those that thumb their noses at a summons — can grant a default judgment. Might be hard to levy on the theory that, e.g., all property in a given state is that of dealer and not Piaggio, but it’s doable. I once attached an airline’s Boeing 747 at Malpensa with a writ for from an Italian equivalent of a smalls-claim court. I’ll tell you that story over a beer (or grappa) sometime, but I can assure you that if you find the pressure point, the $uit$ will be all $ort$ of friendly very fa$t.

[As a relevant aside, I am a lawyer, but also have hired those folks. In fact, I am a principal in a small company pursuing patents to market to motorcycle manufacturers. We have paid way more money than I ever thought possible to secure same. Granted, we have what is likely one of the premier intellectual-property firms in the country working these, but I nearly hurl when an email invoice arrives. So, I am not unsympathetic to those who find lawyers expensive … and maddening!]
Anyway, as I wend my way back to the topic, I do find it interesting that it was easy to find Piaggio’s registered agent — i.e., the entity one serves process, etc., upon — in Georgia. See,
https://ecorp.sos.ga.gov/BusinessSearch/BusinessInformation?businessId=64033&businessType=Foreign%20Profit%20CorporationBut I cannot find such on the Virginia website:
https://www.scc.virginia.gov/clk/svcproc.aspxGranted, Kathi’s giggling with some girlfriends (or tells me it’s GIRLfriends!

) over in Berryville, and I have had a (as in one) G&T … that recently locked thread scared me!

… but surely I am missing that entry on the Va. SoS site. Anyone here who cares … and who has not “sipped” want to try their luck?
Wonder what name they use? I’ll ask WMS in the a.m.
Back to wandering youtube for vids of Guzzi sound clips and of riding in the Dolomites. Yes, retirement is fine. Mighty fine.
