Made my jam
« on: September 11, 2016, 01:23:15 AM »
Really.

The raspberry patch was over half-spent when I got back to town and the last late berry was plucked today.  I added blueberries and my secret ingredient -- bananas -- and got 20 jars of yummy pantry jam.  It will be the last subsistence thing I do in Sitka.  No more snagging sockeye and king salmon.  No more longlining halibut and ling cod.  No more shrimp and crab pots.  The geese, deer and cariboo will no longer tremble at my name.  The tools are packed or sacked, I sold off the snowshoes, and I'm out of here on Tuesday.  From here out I slum at Safeway like a civilized drone.  RIP reality.

Wow, well then can you swing by and drop off a jar of that special jam on your way back to reality...?

Thanks,

Safe travels,

Thanks!

I got a case of 1/4 pints and a half-dozen bigger jars.  It even jelled!

I just dropped Galen off at the airport.  He catches the 6:AM back to Anchorage.  We got the rollarounds (6) into the truck Saturday and the bikes (full dress /7 and Convert) loaded yesterday.  That's after weeks of packing and loading the first 8x8x8' floor-to-ceiling like it was tetris.  There's just no more room for anything up ahead of the bikes and just room enough to close the door behind them.  There are a couple of totes, a potted plant, and some small boxes remaining (anyone need a complete piston and ring set for an 848cc triumph car motor?  Yeah, we got that.) and a few things left to be packed, but mostly it's over.  I know I'm about done with it.  I'm going to build a shelf over the bikes for the remainder.  I leave Tues morning for surgery.  I hope the truck is already gone.

Got an offer on the house.  $70k under my asking price w/15% down and I carry the note.      That should ensure that I never get another permanent address.  I'll wait for the movie version.

But the van and the boat are not gone and I don't have time to make provisions for them.  So I'm forced to come back.  I can't even get an organized bug-out right on the first go-round.
