1100 Sport Clutch
« on: September 15, 2016, 04:37:22 PM »
Hi There,
I Just Need A Little Advice.
Ive Just Replaced The Clucth Plates On My 1100 Sport And Also Bought A New Intermediate Plate. I Noticed When I Installed The Intermediate Plate That It Wasnt Moving Freely In The Splines But Thought It Would Be Ok When It Wore A Little.

I Havent Reinstalled The Motor In The Bike And I Have This Nagging Feeling Its Going To Cause Me Problems. So Before I Complete Installation, Has Anyone Else Had This Issue And Did The Intermediate Plate Wear In Or Should I Replace It With One That Moves Freely Or Put The Old Plate Back In.

Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

I would put the clutch hub tool back in, tighten the bolt in the center all the way in and see if it feels like it's binding in the flywheel grooves w/you back out the center bolt of the tool.  This would simulate using the clutch.
Did you clean out all the grooves in flywheel so there is no clutch dust caked in them?

Many years ago I bought a new/replacement center floater plate for an Eldorado clutch.  The thing had been rough cut to look like a floater plate but the teeth had never been through final machining and would not install at all.  Take it all apart again.  That plate should float freely and smoothly within the flywheel splines.

Where did you get the plate from?

How did you install it, did you use a centre tool?

Re-use the original if not notched, warped, and thickness is ok. I re-etch them w/80grit in a crisscross pattern on both sides the clean w/brake cleaner. Haven't had a problem yet.
