03 stone

Hey all,  I'm going to pick up a 2003 stone next sat.with 6700 original miles on her, it sounds like all the recalls have been done and it seems that it has a 2 plate clutch also, what should I look for? The pic's looked really good, newer tires and fresh service. Thanks for any help. Bruce

We will see sat. I'm wondering about the low miles cause he said his uncle also had a stelvio with over 100000 miles on it, his uncle lived in Utah before he passed so why hardly any miles on the older bike being the stone? Don't really matter i guess cause it is still coming home with me

Foto do you know the owner or history of this bike?  I'm very tempted, I'm glad it's not Red or I'd be done there tomorrow to look at it.  If it's still there Thursday I may check it out.

I don't think I know the owner..
being a 2000 It should have the quicker steering fork or neck, the later V11's like my Lemans had a little less rake which I preferred. rode a friends back then to compare.. I'm a little hazy on it now but remember a change in steering angle in 01?

Well I had Jim at rose farm tell me that the recalls have been done on the Stone and what the seller told me seems to be the truth so Sat. I will pick up the bike and bring it home  he told me he has Motul? 5w40 syn. Is that sound about right? Never run it before.

I have the 2002 of that model . It will grow on you.. I had quite a few bikes, and this one is a keeper.. Not even the style of bike I like, but there is something very appealing to the simplicity of the thing.. Triumph is not mine but was the exact same bike.. Not going to post all them, but just to give you idea of where I came from. Anyway I like the Guzzi a real lot..

Yes the hydro motor specs 5w40 synthetic and Motul makes a good  one.  I've used Rotella T6 since the beginning with my bike since it's available at Wally World and often with a $5 rebate but to each it's own on which oil.  My bike had 30k miles of Mobil Gold Cap 15w50 before the recall was ever done; in all likelihood it wasn't the oil spec that was causing the hydro motors to, um, have issues :)  But I'm over 80k now using the Rotella and the bike is still going strong!

Nice! Boy, if I hadn't just tossed my cash reserve at paying off my V7II... I'm afraid to know what I would have done if I knew about this one sooner.

Two dogs 
We lowered the forks by 3/4 inch and the rear shocks were replaced with 1 inch shorter shocks on my wife's Stone, the difference in handling between her Stone and my EV with this simple modification is amazing.  The bike has been very dependable once the  hydro valve  fix was put in.Unfortunately it came with the single clutch disc that required a trailer ride home and a learning oppertunity to fix. But since these fixes  20,000 miles ago it's a solid runner and fun ride.

Thanks for the replys, I'm going to try it out (stone)for awhile and see if I like it, the sport that I have is a little rough on me even though I love it but after 100 miles or so my hips and shoulder start screaming at me. Its nice to know that the recalls have been done on the stone and it has the updated clutch plus the price is not going to break the bank

Ok I brought the stone home sat. Seems to be in fair shape, it is going to need tires and I will give it a complete service and some TLC, right off the bat I dropped the tail light lens and broke it in two but  its alot of bike for 2300 clams  any recommendations on tires?   plus I'll be looking for HB racks for the bags and back rest and rack and maybe a hwy peg set up, any body out there looking to get rid of such stuff?  Sorry no pics, I can't seem to find em since windows 10 took over.

 If you are on a budget 712 Shinkos work well , my Jackal which is virtually the same as a Stone likes them really well . 130-90 on the rear , 110-90 on the front . I have used Avon Roadriders as well , the bike likes those , but being a normal thrifty Guzzi rider ...

I have the same shinkos on my Cal Vin. They came on it when I got the bike used and they look like almost new. I am pretty impressed with them, they handle quite nice. The rear on mine is a 150/70.
