Been watching from start

To answer original & title question
Could never have been bad idea, ambitious, perhaps but lessons learned are the ones that stay learnt.
Goodonya for trying.

For the next bloke
People from big countries like US, Canada and Straylia have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to travelling,
A/ It is easy to do big trip at home & learn how to pack a bike, how to live off the bike, all where food is similar, language and money the same etc etc
D/ Those foreign places are just that

Especially harder for older first timers, the naivety of youth gets the young ones through what experience tells some to avoid or be cautious through.

I'm old but grew up with travelbug in London, for us then (done the packing thing already) it was a ferry ride to new money , food & culture, within a week that was 3 of those changes if not 6. At a time when a phone call home cost more than 3 tanks of fuel that was not an option, so never happened.
Today with Euro , internet etc Europe is a complete doddle but still good learning curve for going further.

Agree with Roy completely, companion changes everything, personally I don't like travelling with groups of men, my girl enough but have some good friends (other couples) that make life so easy, whoever you are, it's the time off the bike that really counts, make it good.

Keep these threads coming, what motorbikes were meant for, not posing or polishing but riding to the ends of the earth, discovering new

Thank you Zinfan for the trip, for the pics, and for being a straight bloke in saying how it ended up.  My hat's off to you.  I hope that one day I'll try something so adventurous.

You know, this happens far more than most people ever know, it just isn't normally written about.

Good writing, I admire your courage and candor. This was a great adventure, you did more than most riders ever do. I hope someday you will try again-and next time, next challenge, you'll be ready for it!
