Front Brembo Caliper/Pads: How to check and change the pads

Just changed out my rear Brembo pads on my 1200 Sport and found it quite easy. I wanted to check the pad thickness on the the front two gold Brembo calipers. Could someone give me a brief description on how to check the front pad thickness and the steps to changing the pads?

 Same as the rear .

If it's the same golds as my Cali.

There are 2 pins that need to be slid out held in place by hitch(?) pins. Slide the pins out and the metal cover comes off. Then slide out the pads.

There appears to be one "hitch pin?" exposed beside the shield. Do i remove that on  one of the two pins. ? Will that allow me to remove the shield and expose another hitch pin to remove so that I can remove the two major pins?

If by the 'shield' you mean the anti-rattle plate, you likely have the style with the single pin. Sounds like a single pin release.
Easy to change.

Wayne, your right on the name for the plate. Couldn't remember it. IF his front golds are like the ones on my bike, there are 2 pins held in with a hitch style pin on each. These pins hold in the anti-rattle plate and the pads.

On my bike, one of the hitch pins usually hides under the metal shield just a bit. Try rotating the pin to see the hitch pin or try removing the pin that you removed the hitch pin from and raise the shield (NOT REMOVE until the 2nd pin is out) a bit to gain access to the other hitch pin.

If you don't see the hitch pin on the other pin, look at your other caliper and see if you can see it on that one.

Again I'm basing this on the Brembo golds on my '04 Cali EV, your bike may be different. I'll try to post a picture when I get home.

Pliers work to remove the hitch pins, but sometimes a pick, or something like an eyeglass size screwdriver or the like may be easier.

One more thing since you seem new to the disc brakes.

The front brake pads are pretty strait forward to remove and install properly. The rear pads, from another post, can be installed so that (?) either the piston or the caliper or the metal of the pad is hitting the rotor. Just make sure that on the rear, the pads are installed so that one is on each side of the rotor and the friction mat'l on the pad is facing the rotor.
