Rare white case V65SP
« on: October 04, 2016, 09:08:31 PM »
Found a wrecked 1984 V65SP with the rare white case hipro engine...

Was not aware Guzzi painted crankcases and transmissions white - the same color as the swingarm.  Looking at brochures and old photos and I can't find pictures showing white cases.  Anyone know if this was standard?

Thanks!

I always figured it was faded from the usual/original silver.

My 84 V65C had white crankcase and transmission. Don't remember if the swing arm was white though.

This is the same shade as the swing arm and gaskets and fasteners indicate they were painted before assembly.

Ah, you have the hi performance engine too!

Good to know - sounds like it was common in 1984.

A friend just bought one from a gal in Portland. Swing arm is white too.

They came out grey/silver from the factory, but the paint was not stabilised.  When certain petroleum-based degreasers were used the grey paint turned white.

You can verify by searching the WildGuzzi archives from the early 2000s.

The rarity would be finding a silver one from that era.

Interesting.  Looking through the high resolution images on Greg Bender's site (what a fantastic resource!) makes it look like they painted the engines and transmissions on the V65s, but not the V50s and V35s.  My Monza only has a painted swingarm, but everything, even the rear drive, is painted on the V65.  V65 engine and trans are going in the Monza so paint is coming off.

My pretty original Monza is just like you describe. Bare drivetrain, painted swing arm. Why? Only Mother Goose knows..

In my day job I see the effects of decisions made along the way in the Sales/Design/Purchasing/Manufacturing food chain. This thread has me picturing the guys in the paint shop saying

" What?!? Why can't they make up their minds ? "

or

" Are you serious ? We're out of paint AGAIN ? "
