distribter gear pin sheared off
« on: October 06, 2016, 07:15:52 PM »
On the T-3 I'm trying to get running ( it did briefly)the rivet that holds on the gear sheared off when I hit the starter. First gustion what would be a good replacement for the pin, the one that is on it is peaned on both sides like a rivet. Second why?

Happens
Permanent answer is roll pin, like the one that holds spacer/ shims on same shaft
I think it is 1/8" diameter, I bought a 2 inch long one, cut down to use
Careful tapping sets it in, take your time

Orig was soft rivet, lasted well but not long enough, hard pin forever

That's what I used on my Eldo with the Convert motor. I was just wondering if they are soft and meant t to split  to save the gear.

:thumb: If you go in to replace the bearings, replace the o-rings on the shaft as well. They are the same o-ring that's used on the cylinder studs.

If you need some roll pins and o-rings, I'll send you some.

Got a roll pin at the hardware store, no signs of bad bearing so I think I'm all set, just have to find those two rubber plugs that the wires go through wish somehow disappeared under my work bench.....
I found out why it sheared, you can't use a long screw for the condenser....
