New member Convert owner
« on: October 06, 2016, 10:54:25 PM »
Hello all, new member here from Sydney Australia. Just bought a 1977 Convert V1000, my first Moto Guzzi. Already lurking here for some time considering my purchase. The bike is in good original shape with bags, it's kind of blue/green in colour, it's a US import but I don't know where from. It looks to have police handlebars but it's most probably a civilian model. I haven't ridden her yet, I have to get rego and attend to a few little things before I can enjoy her.

I have read here to watch the shift-on-the-go issues and to purchase Guzziology and the Haynes manual. I've also joined the MG Convert yahoo site. I understand there's a few Converts here in Australia but they're thin on the ground. Luckily we have a few good Moto Guzzi mechanics here in Sydney and an exceptionally knowledgeable chap a few hours south of here who owns a Convert.

Anyway, hope to enjoy everyone's input and advice.
Regards, John.

Yeah welcome mate ! I'm an hour north of Melbourene and glad you're on board. Yes we are lucky that we could jump on our bikes and go and talk to Pete in person, a massive reservoir of knowledge an opportunity. I rode with an old bloke who had one arm in Norway recently, he built an outfit around one and didn't hold me up at all, especially in the snow !!! Stay in touch and welcome, (love your accent !!!)

Thanks guys, yeah she's a beauty. I will add photos when I work out how to do it, I have to give her a good clean yet anyway. I was considering a respray to white but I'm not sure yet. She has an after market Givi screen but I prefer the look of the original clear coffin lid screen (for the want of a better discription) or perhaps that US police screen.

A one armed Viking riding a hack through the snow.....yep...I got a clear image of that in my head.

Congrats.  Fun bike and different.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

The fact is RK that his other arm was there but completely useless with no feeling. He had a great sense of humour about it so I made an obvious joke about the perceived benefits on cold lonely nights, when he figured out what I meant he had a massive laugh..... (Fortunately)!

As you say, Converts are not common here. In fact, I can't remember seeing one this side of the Tasman. Congratulations. you may not have it ready for the run out to Tarana for (mainly) historics tomorrow - depart 8.30 from the Richmond info centre opposite RAAF Carrington, but the club meeting is on Tuesday 7pm at the Friend in the Hand, Cowper St, Glebe. You can find out there all about historic rego, if your Convert should qualify, & there's a bunch of people you are likely to find useful. It's a good night out anyway. If you can't make the meeting, start at www.MGOA.org.

Thanks Malik, I'll take you up on your invite to MGOA, my bikes got no rego yet so Tarana is off the cards this time. Look forward to meeting some Guzzi enthusiast, I'm at Manly so not too far from Glebe. John

Welcome Mr. Monk......why monk?

I think you'll find this site and the yahoo convert group pretty darn useful and even enjoyable at times  Lots of good folks and how cow, any and all information at the ends of your fingertips...if you can't find a Guzzi related answer here ...it doesn't exist.

You haven't ridden it yet? No test drive? You are going to love it. Please do post some photo's....you can search archived topics for the photo posting directions...it's really not that hard at all...in the mean time find "photo bucket" on line and join....it's free and the key to loading your photos.

best of luck to you

Photo bucket works just as well as any photo hosting site
They are all pretty much the same

You browse your files and post in your library...  Or just drag and drop in your library

Then enter your library and

Copy the photo you want displayed URL
In photo bucket in the upper keft of your uoaded photo you'll see a few stacked lines ...  Click pn
them and some chioces will appear
Click the copy UTL and the little box will light up yellow for a second
Then go to your already open wg post
Right click and paste the url link

Bingo you have done it

true, but they load you up with cookies and pop up ads and no way to disable that..and on my laptop (mac) attach undesirable influences I can't get rid of..

I've never had a single issue with cookies from photo bucket
My security settings for the site do not allow the use of cookies.
I see an extranious advertisement from them maybe once a month but neverhsve any pop ups to deal with.
I load my pics via several libraries and just click and copy a url as needed.

I'll have a look at smug mug though... It can't hurt to try something new
