tonti rearset alternatives?
« on: October 12, 2016, 01:54:37 PM »
Besides the typical rearset options from Agostini and Tarozzi, are there any others in the market for Tonti Guzzis? There are a lot more people in the game making cnc aftermarket parts these days, so I thought I would throw it out there. . . and if anyone has any in good shape they don't need I'll take em!

I have Agostini rear sets on my cx100 and keep missing the 2-3 shift after numerous adjustments. Was thinking about tarozzi. I would go back to stock but my pegs are bent all to hell.

An Italian company called Gifrap makes an alternative as shown on their website http://www.gifrap.it/Gifrap/Pedane/Pagine/Moto_Guzzi.html
There's a pair fitted to my monza which haven't given me any problems.
Thanks, Dan

Interesting. . .but no prices on their site. Do you recall what you paid?

drum or disk rear brake?

I have a set of indexable universal rear sets from Dime City Cycles. Look nice, but a pain in the butt to get working. They were a gift from my kids for fathers day - they didn't give me any time to tell them what I wanted and I wasn't really ready to order, but thought they would work with my drum rear brake.

I wound up having to get a set of Tarozzi brackets and modify the pegs. In the end, I would have been better off spending the extra $100 on a set of Tarozzi, but would have to still make them work with the drum set-up.

Had a set of the GIFRAPs on one of my Tonti's...they're 'ok'.  Bought them much cheaper years back, but the Agostini's are much better quality, IMHO.

Stucchi used to make rearsets for Tonti's as well, pretty nice, believe they're NLA, though.  I have a 'well-used' set on the shelf 'just-in-case'...

I've owned and tried many...Tarozzi, Agostini, Stucchi, the Gifraps...as far a quality and sturdiness, Agostini are the better ones....but that's just my .02 centesimi's  worth...

I have never had a problem with shifting on the Ago rearsets, in fact they are way better than the stock setup IMO.

Never had a problem with shifting with the Ago's either. Wanted folding pegs hince the Tarozzis'

One thing I might mention is that the Tarossi's are 3/4 higher and about the same more to the rear than the Ago's.
Something to consider.

I thought that Agostini now offers a folding foot peg.

How do you order the Agostini stuff? Is there a US dealer?

They didn't when I bought the tarozzi's. I got their clip-ons also.

What I have found on the tarozzi's is they have a bit less mechanical advantage than the Ago's so the toe shifter will move the shift arm off the trans about a 1/4 of an inch further for a given movement of the toe shifter so a shorter stroke of the foot makes it easier to get a good positive shift.
The trans on my CX doesn't have the spring loaded pin and the holes for each gear in the drum like the later transmissions.
That translates to the need for a good positive shift to keep the false neutrals at bay on the CX especially between 2nd and 3 rd up or down.

Just my observations your results may very...

The 2nd to 3rd is obviously a Guzzi weakness? I have Tarozzis which I bought in preference to the Agostinis because I wanted to reverse the shift (1 up, 4 down) and it was easier to do this with the Tarozzis (I had to make/modify brackets) but still the only gear that might result in a false neutral is between 2-3.

Works well enough though and IMO look better than the Agostini although they do make it a tight fit for the knees...

Order directly from them via email. Some people call them, but I have never had a problem with email communication.
