PHF 36mm Sort/Restore Tutorial

Hi,
Going thru LM III that has sat for years. In process of cleaning out fuel tank and will need to go thru the stock PHF36MM carbs. Anyone know of a good tutorial/tips for going thru these as far as what to watch for.

 It might be worthwhile to search for old posts from Morrizi and Yak Fat . Same guy , unfortunately we lost him some time back . He seemed to truly understand those carbs .

When I was recommissioning my 83 LM III, one of the float needles had an inconsistent habit of sticking closed. Might be worthwhile to replace these, along with all of the gaskets and O rings.

Do you have a copy of Guzziology...? 
There are charts for the proper jets, needles, atomizers and slides to use etc.  depending on whether you have exhaust and air filter mods.

The teardown, cleaning is and assembly is really pretty straight forward.   I would leave the pumper bodies alone though.

Thanx Rob.......I dont have a Guzziology.....if you only had one workshop manual, is it still the best one to have? I am going to take the optmistic approach that it was running good and set up properly before it sat. So round one will be to try and clean everything out, sync em, and record whats in em. After this I will try to get it right. The accelerator pumps are the part I know the least about. I am hoping that it hasnt been messed with much, it is all stock including airbox and exhaust. This bike came from a museum and is in very nice original condition.

You can clamp the carbs in a vice side by side and push the levers together to make sure the accel pumps are squirting the same (adjustment changes the squirt time).

Previous owner installed pod filters and it's been a pain to get it to run right.  Apparently the stock airbox is well designed to tune the intake (Greg Field's book) so leave it unless there is a problem.  Mine now has the "Gruner punkt" settings in the table (except the idle jet is 60 for the pods), but the timing advance springs had to be replaced before it ran right.  It may still get poor gas mileage...

Old slides had worn through the hard plating on them - replacing them improved idle smoothness.
