SP fairing on Convert; fotoguzzi
« on: October 15, 2016, 09:23:20 PM »
I have a spare SP fairing that, after seeing photos of Brad's red and white convert, I would like to install on the 79 Convert I recently picked up. I have seen other peoples converts where the same adaptation has taken place.
However, I had a look at how the fairing is attached on my SPII, and see that the upper fork shroud is significantly longer than the one on the convert, and has fairing  mounting tabs as an integral part. I am a bit challenged when it comes to designing this kind of thing, so I am hopeful that someone here can provide me with some guidance as to how to proceed.
If this topic is too antiquated for the list, please respond off list. I would love to see a photo or two of how to mount the fairing on my old convert.
Thanks
John D.

If you have the SP mounts:

Top

Bottom:
No photo, basically just an "L" shaped piece of metal.

then it should bolt right up to the Convert. The round end of the top brackets bolts to "lugs" cast into the top triple clamp and the flange end bolts to the fairing body. The bottom bracket attaches at the brake splitter/manifold bolt on the front of the lower triple tree and bolts to the fairing body.

Right you are Charlie. I was looking for something similar to the welded-on affair that the SPII has. I did not consider the cast-in lugs on the Convert top clamp. And it should be simple to fab something for the lower mount. Sure appreciate your help!

Which instruments do you have? That can make a difference. I think Harpers said they have the mounts in stock, both new and used.

I've got the original square boxy Convert dash with just a speedometer. I have the upper mounts for the fairing, I just need to make something for the bottom attachments.
