GDR MuZ V twin

Found this yesterday, there's a little museam Berlin Alexanderplatz, wasn't looking for it just stumbeled into it.

interesting V twin, whether this was a prototype, factory job or something an enthusiast built I cant say? Seems a flat twin and V twin were built along similar lines (looks a bit like 2 x ETZ250 block/heads?) but only the flat was exibitted in a motorcycle.

That's why the Suzuki "Gamma" and Yamaha RZ500 V4's (among other 2T race bikes of the day) did it.

Those "V4" engines were actually more of a square 4 (remember the Ariel Square Four), with two counter-rotating crankshafts.

Well, the 2 stroke Vs had separate cranks because they needed separate crankcases. I think this thing would be harder to balance for a street bike, though the crankshafts would be easier to make.

Very need little engine, the two cranks are properly as mentioned earlier because a two stroke needs separate crankcases. If you would make it with one crankshaft the engine would be a lot longer as the cylinders had to be out of line just like a guzzi, but just a lot more. Also you could cancel out the centrifugal forces caused by the cranks by making them counter rotating.

Cylinders seem to be offset quite a bit.

If the pistons are going in and out like a boxer, and I assume they are, the crankshaft has two throws, and the crankcase will pressurize fine for both cylinders at the same time.  They'd also fire at the same time, once per engine revolution.
