The All Blacks played in Chicago the other day
« on: November 06, 2016, 01:00:43 AM »
against the Irish,

AND LOST

UN- BELIEVABLE!!!

Well, actually, it is believable. The Irish field a damned good Rugby team and we only beat them by the skin of our teeth at times.(The last minute of one of the most exiting games I have ever seen   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV5zndjlv7w)

Just wondered if anyone saw the Chicago game?

I can't believe how high some of those guys jump to catch the ball.
They make American football look like a gentlemans game.
I've heard that in an Aussie rules game, a spectator might suffer a broken leg just by watching.

Bit of a trick to that in both Rugger and Aussie Rules though,
They get a boost in lineouts form team mates in rugby, and
can use someone else's back to jump off in AFL, and landing
clean is the head part.

Can't believe you guy's went down to the Irish John, can't
you barstards save an off night for us?

Maurie.

No chance in Hell Maurie!  At least I hope not.

Truth is that after the last World Cup A largish number of key All Black players hung up their boots and headed home to the farm.

This changed the whole team dynamic to the point that we could say we have a new All Black team here.  I think they have yet to find their feet.

first time in 101 years they have been beaten by the Irish...by 12 points. Good match
there is no comparing the two sports...rugby and American football....the similarities stop at the ball...lol
Rugby=Movement and stopping progress via legs with amazing bear strength and little to no protection...more running, more transitions and more tackles with up to 1600 ft lbs of force.
American Football... planting every opponent on the field into the turf every play with up too 4600 ft lbs of force. Both of which are far from a gentleman sport.

Now now,
You know that's not true - we got that fancy tea urn from
the Americans before you did and by beating them on their
own terms, Catamarans indeed.

Amazing result but the Irish have been threatening it for a few years, and I would rate thier chances of repeating it in Dublin as 50:50.

That other game was won by NZ in the 83rd minute.....I think they used that and the death of Axel to be absolutely "on it" for the entire game.

At the time I was watching the Kangaroos win again. Mal is starting something special there.

Oh that one!

The old Admirals Cup.

Well 'hmmm' I say.  NZ did have to invent foiling to make that happen in that way, but in some ways I wish they hadn't.
Spectacular as they may be to sail and watch, Id prefer a return to the 12s. Id prefer a return to a proper racing course too so that tactics and sailors skills can be played out in full.  In the last races the Ozies won by dint of our not being able to complete  race in time whilst sailing at 12 knots!  Ridiculous! Also by their changing their drop keel design illegally, but that sort of thing is par for the course in Americas Cup racing.  I absolutely hate the way it is now organised around tV coverage instead of the other way round.

Gotta say though that the first time the Ozies won it, I was missing a teachers college lecture and was glued to a TV with no picture while jumping up and down in excitement and cheering them on!  (and Dennis Connors head never did find it's way onto the book case where the mug was previously bolted did it?

Well put.
Another major difference is that in Rugby the ball can only go forward by being kicked or carried. (not thrown) In fact one of the most common penalties handed out is for a forward pass.  Also you are only allowed to (intentionally) tackle the person with the ball.

I was in NZ last year when the All Blacks won  the title. Interesting getting up before 5am to drink beer and stuff and watch a rugby tournament .

I really got immersed into the kiwi culture that morning!😀😀

Yes, seen it over here in Scotland, good game, I'm all in favour of rugby's high heid yin's trying to grow the game by taking it to new locations, that said if it ever takes off in America big time then i reckon small nations could struggle ,just because of your huge population, the potential is huge.
Anyhow ,Scotland take on the Aussies on saturday, I'm hoping for a bit of revenge after (and a decent referee ) after our world cup quarter final exit....
