My money says the speed estimate is off.Sort of like the 205 mph sport bike in Wisconsin a decade ago.
I know the FL Straight Pooper that nabbed me on 60 (Gulf to Bay) on the Pinellas side of the bridge was hauling ass when he reeled in my modded '74 Z1 after changing directions from the other lane... That was an '86 Mustang running a dual 4 barrel 351 and he stated he hit 170 catching up to me. I believe him. That was '86. I can see a modded '11 hitting 200+. After some moto conversation and a look under his hood he wrote me up for 70 in a 55. Just a normal ticket. He was a bit more than feisty tho from the get go. Said he clocked me at 138. My buddy on an '83 GS1100E saw him before I did, backed it down, and walked away $100 richer...
"One possibility is that the pilot got it all horribly wrong and pressed the stopwatch at the wrong time. Apparently the pilot managed to clock both Tilley and his accompanying friend (booked for 111mph on an MV Agusta F4i) at the same time, using two stopwatches - while flying a plane. This suggests that error is one distinct possibility."
I have a hard time believing he ran 200 mph. Even harder to believe that he accelerated from 170 to 200 in relatively short distance. That is a city turnpike and not that long. 200 is a huge number and the aero on a mustang is a brick.regardless whether 170 or 200 I wouldn't go very far that speed..... BLOW OUT
You have to remember the man-rules.How fast my car is.How many women I've had.How big was the fish I caught.A man will lie about these things when the truth would be more useful.Aerodynamics would make this one invalid. TIMING SLIPS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!
State Police, hot rodding their pursuit cars with engine swaps?
I guess some departments did that in the 1980s when the cars were such dogs. Some Arkansas State Troopers were running 454s in their Caprice patrol cars. They were pretty fast, for the time...
