Heidenau tires are dangerous at speed on wet pavement. They are an aggressive tread pattern known for high mileage. That tells you the rubber compound is hard.I like a tire that is soft enough to yield only 5-6,000 miles on a rear. I've had the Heidenau (Deathnow) and other east-german tires, and, like other riders, have experienced them breaking traction especially on wet pavement. If you are a careful or non-aggressive rider this issue may be moot. However, physics is physics and hard rubber normally doesn't grip as well as soft rubber on hard surfaces.Off-road the Heidenau tires are great. For Stelvio NTX on and off-road duty, I have been very pleased with the Continental TKC 70 dual-sport tire and the Shinko 705 tire. The Shinko is definitely the best deal for the money.Lots of posting on this topic here and on Adv Rider.
I guess "YMMV" would apply here...Living in Seattle, I get to ride in the rainy wet much of the time. I've not experienced any of the traction loss you describe while on my NTX running the Heidenau K60 Scouts. For me, it's been a great tire. Compared to the Pirelli Scorpions and Shinko 705's I've tried, the Heidenaus get the top marks for performance and longevity. Shinkos win on price.SD
