Il Museo Di Moto Guzzi
« on: December 03, 2016, 06:39:21 PM »
A nice video of the factory for those who have never been. Plus some very nice Italian music.

And a tale from my recent trip to Mandello. Back when Ercoles and Ercolinos were in production, when sold, an employee of the factory would ride it to the customer and then take the train back to Mandello. Told by our host at a very nice B&B there. His wife's dad worked there most of his life.
He has owned several different models and still has one.

Nice job!!
I love that place...I liked Parodi's recreated office too.

Music sounds like Davide VeDistrosse  ? or Ligabua ? ....very nice

True Northern Italian folk music in dialect

You nailed it, according to Shazam the first piece is Davide Van De Sfroos (Davide Bernasconi) Il Construttore Di Motoscafi (The builder of speedboats), the second piece is also him, Pulnta e Galna Frgia (Polenta and cold hen).  Many thanks for the link.  I have a strong feeling that my V7II Stone will eventually join the company of esteemed Moto Guzzis in that museum.

Not likely......

Nice video and music, but I was really disappointed after the last visit this summer. The ceremony is still the same, quite some people waiting, the door opens not one minute before the scheduled time. I remember my first time, how exited I was. A few people were as exited. This time we were asked to fill out a form (name / country). The group of over 20 came from all over Europe, UK and Australia as well. The security man introduced the guide for today and we followed him. It was for sure very informative, he was asked if he could explain a few words in English - scusi solo italiano. There was only one Italian visitor in the group, so he got more info than he asked for......It was our 4th visit in ~ 15 years, nothing changed or added in the museum in that time. Only some oil spots became bigger. If somebody not Guzzi infected goes through the exhibition, he would leave the building with the impression that Guzzi has closed more than 10 years ago. The V 11 is the newest bike, after that you pass on the way out  a Breva engine with drivetrain ( just standing there, no sign or further explanation) - that was it. No Griso, Breva, 1200 Sport, Stelvio, no V7, V9, not one 1400 cc Cali, nothing. No posters, niente. Shouldn't the purpose of a motorcycle factory museum be to show the visitors this is where we are coming from, and that is what we are doing today ? Maybe Guzzi management prevented any upgrades of the mueso to hide their marketing inability?

That music was an excellent choice… It is very specific to that region… Davidè' is  a local folk hero who records in the dialect of the area.  Our host daughter lives in Como and she had introduced me to his music years back... Great stuff.

Where did you find it?

Yes, don't know who made the video, but , despite any German distractors, it is a wonderful thing to see all of that history in one place and Mandello is a lovely town with a long history of manufacturing, not just Guzzi.  The music is icing on the cake.  Davide is new on my hit list now. My ex gf is from that region and it was great to see it all though the eyes of a native.

It looks like Moto Guzzi were actually the ones that invented the ugly beak that is in vogue on Adventure bikes.

I did not make the video, so I would write something at the bottom of it and maybe the owner will respond. I just found on YouTube and posted here.

As to the bikes in the museum, most do not belong to Guzzi as I understand it, but to local collectors.

This bike looked to me like a V7 prepared to take a prototype of the small block engine. An adapter is mounted between engine and gearbox, when you come closer, you see a lot of differences to later engines. There was no further description of the bike, maybe sombody else knows more.

PS: my previous post in this thread had not the intention to claim that the museum isn't worth visiting it. It's absolutely not so, as well as Mandello is a cool place. Having a pizza at Al Ghezz, or stay at the Al Verde, sit at the lake, everything. It's only that nothing happend in the museum fo more than 10 years.

It is a bit sad and I understand the roof leeks a bit too, but it is all so much fun to see. The history with the company and  Antica Officina and Agostini too. Cheers

Might that spacer have something to do with the change to/from a 4speed to the 5 speed, while carrying the same drive shaft/wheel base? Or the webbed as opposed to the smooth transmission cases?  R3~
