120 rear tyre - LM2...

Been servicing the LM2 today, mechanically everything is now spot-on.


The rear tyre is worn down to 1mm and both front and rear were on the bike when I bought it 2 yrs ago. Having checked the manufacturing codes they are both 10+ yrs old so I'm replacing the front as well and this also gives me a chance to check wheel bearings etc.


Currently fitted with Pirelli Sport Demons and these seem a decent tyre so I'll likely get the same again (I've long been a Pirelli man).


Front is a 100/90-18 and rear is a 110/90-18 and, being used to more modern bikes they do look super-skinny especially the rear.


I'm thinking I'd like to get a little wider at the rear but due to the proximity of the driveshaft there's not much room with just 7.5mm clearance between tyre edge and shaft.


Does/has anyone used a 120 rear? it should fit (5mm wider per side).


Any recommendations or tales of woe?

120 will fit but it won't handle or steer as well especially when the rear squares off.

I have a CX100/LM2 and have run 120/90 on the rear.
Not all 120/90s are the same dimension wise but I can tell you that the sport demons will fit fine.
What you have to be careful about is the clearance under the rear fender/mud guard.

It can destroy the wiring to the tail lights. Good idea to re-route (not hard to do) prevent the tyre having contact with same.

I have a 120 rear on mine and I won't install another one for the above reason. And the wheel won't roll when the bike is on the center stand when it's sitting on flat ground.

I used a 130/80 on the rear and 110 on front if I was touring on mine. 100 on the front for sport. I also put the shorter LM1 shocks on my LM3

Sounds like it's too much trouble for an extra 10mm that maybe would give an extra 3-4mm contact patch. I'll stick with the 110.

I'm running Sports Demons on my LM2, personally find them a bit wooden, but that's probably as much to do with the
80's suspension as the tyres.
When the Demons wear out I'm going to give ContiClassicAttack Radials a go.

I run classic attack radials 110/90 on the rear of my CX100.

Three so far, getting twice the mileage that I got on the Pirelli SD (8000) miles typical and good traction, (as good or better as the SD), and handling.
Since they ,(classic attack), produce only a 90/90/18 front and its a bit quick steering wise I run 100/80 BT 45 on front.

I'm happy with this combination.

I've run a 120/90 rear tire on my CX100(LM2) for thousands of miles and unlike Roper found no issues with it's handling vs. a 110 rear.   It gives you about 125 taller rpm (makes your speedo more accurate) and I got 10K to 18K miles out of my rear Bridgestone S11 & Dunlop 491.   1 time I put a 110/90-18 front tire on it and that was a disaster!  But a 110/90-16 on the front works great.     Have ridden my CX for 94K miles.
