Not to open the whole V7 suspension wormcan, but from my perspective, if the suspension on the III is a wee bit improved over prior models, it might be good enough that I wouldn't feel the need to upgrade it.  Boom, several hundred+ dollars saved.  Folks might still want to upgrade in search of maximizing performance.

Lots of reasons and not unprecedented in Guzzi history if memory serves.

* Consumer products are generally priced to the market. Margins grow and shrink with what the margin can bear and what the company can negotiate from parts suppliers.

* Once tooling and initial investments are paid margin grows allowing for more aggressive pricing if the marketing requires it.

* Actual changes to the product (single instrument pod or changes of suppliers) can change margin.

I'm thinking it's mostly A, with a little B, and a hint of C.

I'd wager that very few people buy Guzzi's at MSRP.  A large percentage of units sit in showrooms until discounted.  That's just my impression.  Maybe the new pricing is just an attempt to cut to the chase and correlate income to production a little more closely.

I WAS referring to the mighty BREVA 750, which of course came out before the breva 1100 and looks a whole heap nicer, especially if it is in the fast red colour like mine! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :grin:

I've been on the lookout for a V7/V7ii/maybe a V7iii to replace my BV11, because they're lighter, and have a heritage to them. But I still love my Breva v11! ... Why?

I found the Breva v11 well made and designed (almost). And over engineered compared to many other bikes in that price range - especially in the resale market.

Mainly because panniers + lane-splitting ability are important for me. And because of the monoshocks, together with the original Guzzi panniers (Norge 36 litre sized ones), the BV11 can have   tucked-in hauling capacity without the enormous width often associated with dual shock bikes using large third-party panniers (like H&B Junior 40s).

My main gripe is the huge LCD screen which burns up when the bike is parked exposed to the heat of the sun.

The new V7s have come back to simple speedometers with small LCDs and extra info via the mobile phone. Clever!


I hope future V7s (V7iv ?) might also have monoshocks to take advantage of the space under the seat for larger panniers yet narrower bike width. Although I was explained that dual rear shocks are stronger and more efficient.

Looking forward to more improvements from MG.

Well, we don't know much yet.  Aside from the single clock on the Stone III vs 2 on the Stone II, here are a few things I've noticed on comparing the III specs (taken from the Italian Moto Guzzi web site) to those of the II.

The III weighs more (189 kg dry) than the II (177 kg dry).
The III has less ground clearance (150 mm) than the II (179 mm).
The III develops the same maximum torque (60 Nm) at a much higher rpm (4900) than the II (2800).
The rear suspension travel of the III is less (93 mm) than that of the II (100 mm).
The III claims only 1 more kw of maximum power (38) than the II (37).  They're probably equal within the margin of measuring error.

Comparing suspension on the 2 different models is pointless - they will both be not very good.  BUT it really depends on what you plan to do with the bike.  If you are going to tool around on it, leave it stock.

If you want to go quicker, be more comfortable, and be in control, upgrade it.  Also, I notice that the majority of people do springs only, and I assume the reason is cost.  But if you are going in there, you might as well do it right, and address everything. 

I'm in the process of doing just that on my V7ii, and Race tech springs ($100) and Gold Valve Emulator ($160) means you will get it done for under $300 if you do it yourself.  Sure, you won't get the fancy preload adjusters at the top of your fork, but I usually only adjust them once anyways.

From experience, there will be a huge improvement in the ride quality and control of the bike.  I'll report back when I'm done.

Simple, finally somebody woke up and figured out the only time the V7  (or any Guzzi) retails is when it's sold at $1000-2500 off retail.
many might recall about 8-10 years back Guzzi was getting yelled at by a lot of dealers because a few were cutting margins and making them look bad. so in their stupidity they slashed the dealers margins and put the extra money in the US distributers pocket. had they lowered retail there might be a lot more dealers and Guzzi's on the streets of the US.
Maybe now they have realized that the other brands are constantly bringing out new and improved products while Guzzi continues to die in the future.
And yes I love my 15 V7 and would buy another at the same $6000 plus sales tax only I paid a year ago.

I can't help but think that dealers are going to end up losing money on any existing stock of V7-II due to the $1-1.5K price drop of the III over the II.

I paid MSRP for my V7II Stone, took delivery on May 8, 2015, the first one to arrive in RI.  But, I sold my '13 V7 Stone the same month, for $6000, with no accessories (I transferred them to the V7II), 12,000 mi on the odo and a set of original Metzler Lasertechs that needed replacing.  So, overall, I think I made out OK.

The Stornello is $11,790.00 in Canada ($2,600.00 more than the Stone).




 In comparison, the Indian Scout 60, with a 78hp 1000cc water-cooled V-twin mounted in an aluminum frame, retails for $10,999.00.




I really like the V7, but I think Moto Guzzi needs to address their pricing if they want to compete, especially in North America.

I wasn't implying that the Stornello isn't worthy of the price, they are handmade after-all. I myself can often be found ogling #307/1000 at the local dealership.

Sadly, I think most Guzzi dealers are already losing money.   :sad:  Seat of the pants impression but I haven't seen this much non-current Guzzi stock sitting on dealer floors in years.

My dealer is now selling V7II Stones for ~$7500, about $1500 less than I paid in May 2015 (the price of early adoption).  He's also ordered a few V7III's.  He's a long-time multi-brand dealer who has an affection for Guzzi's, and he doesn't seem at all perturbed by the drop in prices.

I was in my dealer here in SoCal, ProItalia, and they had their Guzzis marked down $1500-$2000 for a factory discount.  Of course ProItalia adds back in some dealer prep and destination fee, and in CA the sales tax DMV stub is above 10%, and the $8,500 Stornello I was sitting on somehow got to just past $11,000 OTD (might have been $11,400, can't recall exactly).

I've bought a Ducati from PI before, and as they are only about 3 miles from my house, I would likely buy from them again.  I have never owned a Guzzi, and having an established dealer with decent mechanics close by makes it seem pretty safe to jump in.

Now if I can just source some mag wheels, a small windshield, some fancier suspenders, and luggage that matches that beatiful brown leather seat on the Aniversario, I think I have found the perfect LA commuter and Angeles Crest Hwy runner.
