An elusive Le Mans III for sale on ebay
« on: February 16, 2017, 12:14:52 PM »
This looks like a very nice example. These don't come up for sale very often.
Anyone here know this bike?

Extremely nice 1983 Moto Guzzi LeMans III. 27,398 miles. Probably one of the
nicest originals you'll find. Starts, runs, rides and stops exactly as it should.
Fantastic example of the great bikes from this iconic Italian company.
Prices for the LeMans I are out the roof, and the LeMans II have followed.
Now the LeMans III has caught on and they are gaining in desirability and value daily.
I have no real desire to sell this bike, but an opportunity has come along for which
I could use the funds. That said, selling it is not a must so my reserve is firm.
I love the bike and am aware of its value, both now and in the future,
so have no problem keeping it if it doesn't meet the reserve.
Bike needs nothing that I know of so is sold AS IS with no warranty.
Clear title in hand. All shipping/handling costs and arrangements are the
responsibility of the buyer. Cash upon pick-up or cashiers check/ money transfer.
Any check must clear before bike leaves me.
ANY BIDDERS WITH LESS THAN 10 TRANSACTIONS MUST CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING.
Located just outside Chattanooga, Tn.. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.

I will be very interested to see what it brings. Last year I bought one from the San Diego Auto Museum in very similar condition with all original paint, has a few less miles than this one.

I probably paid too much, but I wanted it. If this one goes for good money, I will feel much better. Some of you guyz on the forum better get bidding.

I have been interested in buying a LeMans for a year now, I am going to guess his reserve is $7k, that seems to be the asking price of those that have come up recently, but I'm not sure many have actually made their reserve. We'll see if I'm right or not.

I had a white LM III with ridiculously low mileage and, after I went through it, in very fine fettle. If I were a few inches taller and a big heavier, it would have been ideal. Wonderful machines that as stock are pussycats and, when tweaked, can be tigers!

I just noticed that this one has the OEM Rear shocks.

Mine came with these installed, and at 15,000 miles, had virtually no damping whatsoever. A set of Koni dial-a-ride shock fixed that.

Still, this one appears to be a very nice example.

 Wonder what the reserve is?

This one belongs to a local fellow I know, but I didn't know he had this! My first Guzzi was an '84 LeMans just like this one. Beautiful to look at and to ride.
If the winning buyer needs it stored for a bit, I can do that. Just offering.....

this is puzzling...reached about $7300. With about a day to go, and suddenly the auction ends!

Never hit whatever the reserve was.

Seller remorse?

No, we just talked about the bike. I figured it was a moot point anyway.

So after all of this, what is the fair market value for a bike in this condition. I would think the $7300 is about all there is?

"Came to his senses".   i.e. "fishing"
Nice, put it up for sale, watch it clime$$ and pull the plug on those hopeful to
pay good money for it.

Tazio,

I did not get that impression from my communication with him.

I would think if you are " fishing", craigslist would be a cheaper route to go.

eBay has fees, CL is free.

A Le Mans III was my second Guzzi, and I loved it more than any other bike I've owned. I rode it daily for close to 15 years. It was the most sublime motorcycle. I bought it in 1985 - it had been imported into the UK after it caught fire on the track in some Italian road race event, so it was registered in the UK as a "Q" reg - for year of manufacture unknown. It was modified and had a quick action throttle, Del Orto 40mm pumpers, extended sump, gear timing set, and a 950 high comp big bore kit. It also had a matt black Lafranconi exhaust system. It lacked the under-tank Flash Gordon wings, and I had to fit a new seat and tailpiece to repair the fire damage, leaving me wondering exactly why it would have caught fire there right at the back of the bike....

At some point I changed the fork springs for some progressive springs that I'd been recommended, but other than that I left it as it was. It was a fabulous bike to ride, with significant useable power, which was particularly evident in the mid range, although the over-bored motor was still pretty eager to spin up. And on wide sweeping country roads it was exceptionally planted, and basically just a joy.

Sadly it ended its life as a LM3 in a bus-lane in Brixton. Planted it in a car that turned across my path. The front hub ended up meeting the generator. The engine went on to power a three wheeled sports car.

You only have to pay the fees if your item sells...  if you pull it or it goes unsold, no fee... well, MAYBE a listing fee, but that would only be a couple bucks
