V7 pipe problems
« on: February 26, 2017, 10:08:01 PM »
On my 2012 V7 Special, the previous owner had replaced the original pipes (and removed the hanger plates) with some very noisy unknown brand pipes, bolting them directly to the pillion footpeg and muffler support. As the pic shows, he's stupidly gutted the internals so the noise is entertaining on a hill climb but after about half an hour, you start to go a bit crazy.

I'm curious to know who made these because they are not stamped with a maker's name and legally all post 1986 Australian bike mufflers must be branded, other wise if you're pulled up, you get a defect notice.
Does anyone recognise them ?

Conclusion - not made by an Aust company because who would put unstamped pipes out on the market. Could be an e bay purchase but how did he ever know that they would fit and that the header pipe turn up was appropriate.

So I bought a set of Arrow pipes off a 2010 Classic but on this bike but prior to the Arrow fit, the pipes were attached like this:

Are these original Guzzi pipes or a second set and have the supports been changed from new?

My supports are different - like this :

with a drop of 210mm from X to A.

So I pulled a support off the V7 racer which looks very much like the support shown in the Classic photo :

No MG part number so are these genuine. If not, then this could account for the problem I'm having below.

Part 2 coming up after I run my head under the cold tap

So here's what the Special looked like with a Racer support bolted on
https://s26.postimg.org/svwbdu5ih/IMG_0497_Copy.jpg

with the Arrow pipe ready to be pushed forward ( Obvious that the 210mm supports were never going to work.)

But a problem because the muffler tab (with the bolthole in it) wouldn't go on the inside of the support and the muffler body fouled the shock absorber.
https://s26.postimg.org/gfzlk3c6h/IMG_0495_Copy_2.jpg

On the Racer, the muffler tab (and these are original guzzi pipes)
https://s26.postimg.org/7oskptsvd/IMG_0499_Copy.jpg   doesn't line up well with the support
https://s26.postimg.org/566vp5755/IMG_0498.jpg

but this fit is much worse.

So is the solution to make a get a plate made up with a 10mm  offset. What complicates that is that the hole height (i e. the line up between the muffler tab hole and the support is good, whereas if were too high or low then an adaptor plate would be easier to construct.

My Racer (as new) was originally fitted with the stainless 2 big hole flat supports like this,
https://s26.postimg.org/bg7799cvd/V7_racer_BS_Melb_10500.jpg

but when the orig owner went back to the dealer and got a"pillion" package he fitted those black "short" supports and didn't give her back the original plate ones.

Can anyone give me a pic of one these plates (not attached to bike) with a ruler shown so I can get the correct scale and make up a template to try and get the necessary "Z" offset.

I've lost track what you mean by "these" by the time I get to this point in the posts. Can you clarify?

TKs Kev M ,
if you pull up the last link labelled Melbourne 10500, you see that this bike is fitted with stainless muffler supports having 2 big holes in them (plus the mounting holes). This is the thing i need details of because these supports were replaced on my V7 Racer with the black supports (150mm) (so that a pillion cd be carried) that i showed in the first post.

Because stainless would be best, I'll have to get someone to fab them up, so I need accurate dimensions and the offset.
