The back up singer (Peter Frampton) and lead guitarist gained fame after this gig. He's still not as good as the original (Humble Pie) IMO but he still plays covers of the old band.

'Remember the Future".  What a great album that was!

As well as "Journey to the Centre of The Eye" and "A Tab in the Ocean".

I was fortunate to have seen Nektar live 4 times including their best IMHO...Nearfest 2002 with all original members including light/visual man Mick Brockett .

Sad to say founding member and guitarist Roye Albrighton passed away last July.

Any fan of Progressive Rock or more fondly known as PROG might enjoy the works of THE FLOWER KINGS who hail from Sweden. Anyone who enjoys YES, King Crimson and early Genesis is sure to find this band of interest. I for one might be a tad bias as I have been part of their road crew since the late 90's and have traveled all across the US and Europe with them. If you have the time please do check them out.

The Dream Syndicate was a great early 80s band that never quite made it. They were part of an LA scene now classified as the Paisley underground. I think only the Bangles and Mazzy Starr had any commercial success.

A band I liked in the 1990s was Paw. Edgy music with a personal touch that grunge didn't have.

When the Counting Crows 1st record came out I had high hopes for them but they never had much else good

The BoDeans were a pretty good 1990s band

I liked both the first (August and Everything After) and the second (Recovering the Satellites), which contained four very strong pieces -I'm Not Sleeping, Have You Seen Me Lately?, A Long December, and Angels of the Silences.

From this last:

I dream of Michelangelo while I'm lyin' in my bed
Little angels hang above my head, and read me like an open book
Suck my blood, break my nerve, offer me their arms
Well, I would not be an enemy of anything - I'll only stand here
Waiting for you

Long before any of the mainstream bands (Zep, Genesis, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel) introduced African influences in their music, there was Osibisa.

They had Roger Dean artwork even before Yes had discovered him (this is the back and front from their first album in 1971). Though Dean had done previous covers, the Osibisa piece was the first of his distinctive style of surrealism.

As for other African music that wasn't given the respect it deserved. there is Ladysmith Black Mombasa (widely known thanks to Paul Simon), Miriam Makeba (famous in her own right), the Dave Matthews Band, and to return to the lesser known artists that this thread was started to talk about - Johnny Clegg and Savuka.

I was a big fan of both Zebra (New Orleans) and Honeymoon Suite (Niagara Falls) in the early/mid 80's.  A couple'a good rock bands that seemed to have been all but fogged out by all the Aqua Net being sprayed around the 80's rock scene.

Wow. Honeymoon Suite. Wow. New Girl Now was one of my favorite songs at the time. Never listened to anything past that.

Great band.

"The band was almost invited to play at Woodstock. When Michael Lang was negotiating with Bill Graham to get the Grateful Dead to appear, Graham insisted Lang put one of two acts that he managed on the bill. Lang then listened to a tape of both It's a Beautiful Day and the other band and liked them so much that he couldn't decide so he flipped a coin and It's a Beautiful Day lost. The band that won was Santana, who became stars overnight."

The Cats. Dutch band from mid 60's through to 80's. Piet Veerman had the most amazing voice.

The Small Faces. I see Humble Pie has been mentioned. Steve Marriot was some singer as well as being a pretty mean guitarist. Sadly, only the drummer Kenny Jones is left. We wore out 3 LP's of Ogdens Nut Gone Flake when I was flatting. Give me a few   :boozing: I may still be able to recite the story of Happiness Stan. :thumb:

I have always preferred The Small Faces period as his best singing. Sad ending for Steve.
