V7 II key
« on: March 16, 2017, 08:17:56 PM »
I like to have a spare key on my key ring, should the one kept in my watch pocket be misplaced or damaged, etc.
The factory keys are too wide for pocket comfort, with the plastic head, so now I have a thin one, from a lock smith for $3.

Ilco X270     TMC1

Works fine.

The locksmith is Simi Valley Lock & Key.
The owner, Skip, is close to my age.
You bring him the key and he makes the copy.
I suppose you could mail him one of your keys, but I'd call him first
Area code 805, 527 9411
1925 Angus Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065.

Or contact your local locksmith and ask if they have Ilco X270     TMC1

Good to know.

I did buy a couple of spare uncut keys from AF1 that appear to be exactly like the stock keys for IIRC under 7 bucks per key.

They sent one and one is backordered.

Will the spare start the bike? I assumed that the big plastic head on the key held a transponder of some sort and that a regular key wouldn't work. If it will start it I would love to have a spare to keep in my wallet though!

Thanks Doc. !

I have learned a couple things about transponder / Clone keys .

So I ordered two keys cut to the # on my key from : https://www.keys4urride.com

But ,  They would turn everything on but the bike wouldn't start ...

So I went to get my local key shop to "Clone" them to the original key ... Their machine was tore up  ..  .
So with the new (un-cloaned) key in the switch and turned on I held the original key really close and hit the starter .
To my surprise it stayed running after taking the original key away ...
And then again the NEW Clone started the bike by itself next time ...  :thumb:
I re-peated the process with my other New Key and it worked again ...

I now have three keys instead of one .   The two extras cost $27 and change --- delivered to my door from :   https://www.keys4urride.com

The blank was ZD24RDP-S1 , for a 2016 V7 Stone
The cut code was a 4diget #

Spare key on my key ring (form Simi) is all metal

No Doc.  Its electronic .    The replacement keys would turn on everything but the motor ... The 2016 also has digital read outs on the speedometer and the rpm gauge.
Ya got to have an electronic key or it don't start .    But its an easy fix !

Another blank is:-
                                 SILCA ZD24RDP
Note that the two notches closest to the plastic head are not required. They are only a feature of the original ZARD blank. They serve no purpose.

Cheers
Brian

My Ilco all metal key starts my 2016 V7 II Stone.
No mods.

In the attached photo, note the metal key (no I don' ride with key ring, as the metal key is simply a backup to factory key in my watch pocket).   Also note 1300 RPM.
